SALEM, Va. — The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team fell 22-8 to Roanoke (Va.) to close out its spring break trip on Saturday afternoon at Kerr Stadium.
The Maroons improve to 5-4 overall while dropping the Polar Bears to 5-2.
Senior Tyler Ferguson (Springboro) led the ONU offense with three goals, and senior Alex Reimer (Lancaster, N.Y.) added three points on two goals and one assist.
Senior Riley O'Neal (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) also had two goals for Northern.
Junior Chad Calderwood (West Linn, Ore./Episcopal) and sophomore Joe Keeley (Potomac, Md./Georgetown Prep) each had a team-best four ground balls for ONU.
Wyatt Whitlow led RC with eight points on six goals and two assists.
Whitlow scored four times in the first quarter of Saturday's game, sparking the Maroons to a 5-1 lead going into the second frame.
Roanoke proceeded to outscore ONU 7-1 in the second quarter to take a 12-2 edge into halftime.
With the Maroons up 13-2, the Polar Bears scored four straight goals to get within seven, 13-6, with 6:26 remaining in the third period.
O'Neal scored twice in that seven-plus-minute span to go with one goal each from Reimer and Ferguson.
RC led 14-6 going into the fourth quarter and ended the game on an 8-2 scoring run.
Polar Bear senior goalkeeper Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) recorded 10 saves in the game and is now 5-2 on the season.
Roanoke out-shot ONU 62-28 in the game and had a 34-19 advantage in ground balls.
The Polar Bears return to action on Wednesday hosting Trine (Ind.) at 7 p.m. for their final non-conference game of the season.
