UMW Women's Lacrosse Falls at Roanoke, 10-6

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 10-6 decision at Roanoke College on Thursday afternoon. Junior Katie Blair led the Eagles, who slip to 4-1, with four goals.

Roanoke took a 2-1 advantage through one quarter, with a Blair goal sandwiched between a pair of Maroon scores. Blair opened the second with a tyng goal on an assist from Caely Terapane, but Roanoke responded with three straight goals before freshman Maya Koebke trimmed the deficit to 5-3 before halftime.

The quality defense on both sides continued in the third quarter, as each team would muster just one goal in the period. After Roanoke exteded its lead to 6-3, Blair scored on a Clare Madden assist in the final minute draw the Eagles to within 6-4.

The teams traded scores to pen the fourth, with Koebke adding her second of the day, but Roanoke answered with three straight goals to put the game away. Blair capped the scoring in the final minute on a pass from Bridget Crowley.

Roanoke led in shots, 35-12, as well as ground balls, 25-10. Each team had 10 draw controls, and UMW goalkeeper Cailyn Tripp registered 13 saves.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they visit Stevenson University at 7:00 p.m.
