#16 UMW Women's Lax Tops Roanoke, 11-9, in Puerto Rico


SAN JUAN, P.R. --- The 16th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team topped Roanoke College, 11-9, at Bayamon Complex Tuesday. The Eagles improved to 4-1.

The Eagles outshot the Maroons, 31-15, including a 21-7 second half edge.  They also held a 27-19 advantage in groundballs and caused 18 turnovers.  Roanoke were 6-for-13 in clear attempts and caused 14 turnovers.

With Mary Washington up, 2-1 early in the first half, Roanoke woke up and scored three of the next four goals to go up 4-3 at the half.

Roanoke scored the first goal of the second stanza to make it, 5-3 just 15-seconds in before UMW went on a scoring spree, putting up seven unanswered goals to give them a five-goal lead, 10-5.

The Maroons scored four of the last five in their final push, bust the Eagles won the final draw control and kept possession until the horn sounded.

Lauren Callison finished with four goals to lead the Eagles, while Allie Kimmelman led all players with four assists.  Keller Torrey led all scorers with two goals and three assists for five points.

Maggie Nunn had four groundballs while Julianne Petrucelli totaled three groundballs and caused three turnovers.  Mo Sutherland collected three groundballs with two caused turnovers.

Freshman Darragh Evarts led Roanoke with a game-high five goals with a team-best three caused turnovers.  Allison Bonanno totaled two goals and two assists while Kathleen Wager added two goals and a team-best five groundballs.  Madison Murphy had three groundballs and two caused turnovers.

Lauren Curtin had 10 saves for Roanoke.  Kathryn Stilz collected four saves for Mary Washington.
