UMW Men's Lax Tops Shenandoah, 14-9, to Improve to 2-1

Junior Henry Moag scored three goals and added one assist and senior J.D. Nozemack added two scores and three assists to lead the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team to a 14-9 victory at Shenandoah University on Saturday in Winchester, Va. The Eagles improve to 2-1 on the season.

Nozemack opened the game with an unassisted tally, before the Hornets reeled off three straight to take the lead. Nozemack and Moag each found the nets to close the first quarter to knot the score at 3-3.

The game remained tight in the second. Moag opened the scoring, and Owen Castleman notched a man-up goal between Hornets goals. Hunter Tipton closed the second with a tally assisted by Nozemack to tie the score at 6-6 at intermission.

The Eagles blew the game open in the third, scoring the first six goals. Moag and Castleman scored man-up goals, and Carter Lynch, Ethan Castleman, Garrett Keogh, and Jake Furman followed with scores. Jackson Davis and Chad Brown scored in the fourth for UMW.

Shenandoah led in shots, 33-32, and won 17 of 27 faceoffs. UMW senior goalkeeper Riley Green made nine saves in 60 minutes between the Eagle pipes. Keegan Shipe notched five ground balls.

The Eagles will be back in action next Saturday when they host Haverford College at 3:30 p.m.
