Men’s Tennis Team Beats Roanoke (Va.)

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA --  The Baldwin-Wallace College men's tennis team defeated Roanoke (Va.) College, 8-1, this morning (Monday, March 4, 2012) on the second day of its Annual Spring Break Trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The Yellow Jacket men will play four more matches while down south, including a 6:30 p.m. match this evening against Eastern Nazarene (Mass.) College.

With its win, B-W is now a perfect 10-0 this season, including a 2-0 record last fall and a 6-0 slate during the winter portion of its schedule. Roanoke drops to 0-3 overall.


In singles play, senior number one player Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake) won by the scores of 6-4 and 6-1, junior No.2 player Joe Horvath (North Royalton) won by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0, senior No.3 player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) won by the scores of 6-2 and 6-2, senior No.4 player 
Alexandre Bourdiaux (Paris, FRANCE/Lycee Saint Dominique) won by the scores of 6-2 and 6-0 and junior No.5 player Alex Kearney (North Olmsted) won by the scores of 6-0 and 6-0.

With Trzeciak's win at No.1 singles, he is now 74-18 for his career and is two victories shy of tying Chris Johnson (1997-2000) and Kevin Peacock (1995-98) for fourth on the all-time victory list. In addition, Horvath's victory was the 52nd of his career. He is now 52-11 overall and is tied with Ben Purdy (1995-98), Brad Susnik (1990-93) and Josh Myers (1998-2001) for 19th on the victory list.


In doubles action, the No.1 duo of Trzeciak and Bourdiaux won by an 8-5 score, the No.2 tandem of Horvath and Beaton won by an 8-6 tally and the No.3 group of senior Patterson and sophomore Josh Pecinovsky (Columbus/ Bishop Hartley) won by the score of 9-8, including 7-5 in the tie-breaker.


Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 6, B-W will play a pair of matches as it plays NCAA Division II Walsh University at 8:30 a.m. and then plays Trine (Ind.) University at 6:30 p.m. in Hilton Head.

This morning's victory against Roanoke gives B-W veteran Head Coach and former Academic All-American Brian Rector 395 career wins and runs his career record to an amazing 395-83 in 23 seasons.  Rector is the winningest tennis coach in Ohio Athletic Conference and Ohio collegiate tennis history.
