Sertz Logs Milestone in South Carolina Finale

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – A 7-2 win over the University of Lynchburg on Friday headlined The College of Wooster women's tennis team's final three matches in South Carolina.

Wooster (8-5) won five of the six singles matches, starting with senior Shannon Sertz's 6-1, 6-1 win over Ellen Druebbisch at No. 3. In the second flight, first-year Ishika Gupta downed Elizabeth Teffey 6-2, 6-3, while first-year Kathryn Materick clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Alissa Anderson in the fourth flight.

The Scots' other singles winners against Lynchburg were junior Laura Haley (2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8)) at No. 5 and first-year Amber Dinchman (7-6 (1), 6-4) at No. 6.

In doubles action, senior Qingyue Li and Sertz topped Christina Harris and Caroline Guill in the top flight 8-2, while Materick and first-year Abby Kushner Benson won 8-4 against Druebbisch and Lauren Pascadio at No. 2.

Wooster's trip wrapped up with a 5-4 loss to Sweet Briar College. Sertz beat Emily Wandling 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. The victory marked Sertz's 46th in singles play, moving her into a tie with Estela Pereira for the fourth-most in program history. Overall, Sertz is at 95 career wins between singles and doubles, and that's the fourth-most in program history.

Materick and Haley didn't drop a game en route to winning at the fifth and sixth singles flights against Sweet Briar. Materick and Dinchman picked up a team point at third doubles with an 8-2 victory.

Earlier in the week Rhodes College topped Wooster 8-1. Materick was Wooster's winner in that match. She rallied back to beat Dallas Bennett 6-7 (5), 6-2, 1-0 (10-7).
