Greyhounds Run Past Bridgewater in Hilton Head for First Victory of 2023

HILTON HEAD, S.C. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse squad raced out to a 9-0 first quarter lead and led 12-0 midway through the second quarter on the way to a 16-6 victory over Bridgewater (Va.) College in Hilton Head, South Carolina, Tuesday as the Greyhounds won their first match of 2023.

How It Happened

  • The Hounds needed just over a minute to take the lead for good as sophomore midfielder Alex Cherenson found the net. Senior midfielder Megan Donnelly scored 46 seconds later for the Blue & Grey before Cherenson scored again for a 3-0 edge roughly three minutes into action. Sophomore attack Jackie Salvatore netted three goals in the first period with Donnelly scoring once more and sophomore midfielder Madi Dippel and freshman midfielder Gianna Lotito each putting the ball in the net once as Moravian led 9-0 after 15 minutes of action
  • Junior defender Keara Reilly opened the second quarter with a goal a minute and a half into play while Donnelly and Dippel added goals for the Hounds' 12-0 advantage. The Eagles would get two goals late in the quarter as the Blue & Grey headed to the intermission with a 12-2 edge
  • Bridgewater scored first in the second half, just 39 seconds into the third quarter; however, senior attack Devin King restored the 10-goal lead 14 seconds later. The Eagles added another goal, but once again, the Hounds needed just seven seconds to score as senior attack Kendall Lomascola found the net. Dippel tallied once more as Moravian led 15-4 after 45 minutes of play
  • King scored the Greyhounds' final goal about two minutes into the fourth quarter while Bridgewater added two goals later in the period

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had eight different players score with Salvatore leading the way with three goals and three assists to go with four ground balls. Dippel contributed three goals, an assist, six ground balls, two draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers while Donnelly had a hat trick to go with three draw controls and two ground balls
  • King recorded two goals two assists, four ground balls and three draw controls while Cherenson finished with two goals and a pair of ground balls
  • Lotito had the first goal of her career to go with two assists and two ground balls while Lomascola and Reilly each netted one goal and scooped up two ground balls with Reilly adding a pair of caused turnovers along with just her second career goal
  • Senior goalie Rylee Soltis made the start and had five saves in the first half of the contest for her first win of the year while senior Brelyn Friedman recorded two saves and a pair of ground balls in the second half of the match
