ODAC Players of the Week

BASEBALL
JOSEPH LUCAS, Bridgewater, Sophomore,
Pitcher
Lucas, a sophomore from Waynesboro, Va.,
picks up his second weekly honor of the season. Lucas pitched a
nine-inning complete game shutout in a victory over Hampden-Sydney
on Saturday. He struck out eight and walked just one while
surrendering only three hits in his time on the bump. He is now 2-2
on the season with a 2.33 ERA.

BASEBALL
SHAYNE PASKANIK, Virginia Wesleyan,
Junior, Outfielder
Paskanik, a junior from Fredericksburg, Va.,
turned in an outstanding effort in a VWC sweep at Eastern Mennonite
University. He was 5-for-5 in the opener, including a double and
home run, the latter his second of the season. He followed that
with a 2-for-4 showing in the second game to complete a three-game
weekend with a .667 batting average. Paskanik ranks second among
VWC hitters currently with a .407 batting average. He leads the
Marlins with 22 hits.

GOLF
TIM GAVRICH, Washington and Lee,
Senior
Gavrich, a senior from Avon, Conn., won the
Pine Needles Invitational held at the Pine Needles Resort in
Southern Pines, N.C., on Monday and Tuesday. He carded a +6 score
of 76-72—148 to win the tournament by one stroke. It was his
second individual win on the year after claiming the Virginia
Intercollegiate held at the Wintergreen Resort in October. As a
team, W&L finished seventh overall at the Pine Needles
Invitational. Gavrich currently holds a 75.2 scoring average over
14 rounds played in 2010-11.

MEN'S LACROSSE
JEFF KEATING, Roanoke, Junior,
Attack
Keating, a junior from Chatham, N.J., led the
Maroons to a 17-8 victory over Birmingham Southern College with a
career-high six goals to go with one assist for seven total points.
Keating did his damage on just eight shots. He also collected four
groundballs and caused three turnovers on the Maroons' front
line.

MEN'S TENNIS
WILL HALL, Washington and Lee, Senior,
No. 1-3 Singles, No. 1 Doubles
Hall, a senior from Cape Elizabeth, Me.,
helped the Generals to a 4-0 week by notching a 3-0 record in
singles and a 4-0 mark in doubles last week. In an 8-1 win over
Lynchburg on Thursday, Hall posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles
then teamed with junior Mac Davis to notch an 8-3 victory at No. 1
doubles. In a 9-0 win over Randolph-Macon on Friday, Hall logged a
6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles and an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles while
playing with Davis. On Saturday, he posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2
singles and an 8-0 win with Davis at No. 1 doubles in a 5-0 win
over Virginia Wesleyan and registered an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles
in a 5-0 win over Emory & Henry. For the year, Hall has
recorded a 5-4 singles mark and a 10-2 doubles record.

SOFTBALL
KATIE BRUCE, Lynchburg, Senior,
Pitcher
Bruce, a senior from Lanexa, Va., earned two
victories this weekend at the Beach Blast Tournament hosted by
Virginia Wesleyan College. Bruce worked 6.2 innings Friday in a 6-5
win against Rowan, allowing just one run with five strikeouts while
scattering two hits and one walk. Bruce registered a complete-game
4-0 shutout victory against Stevenson University in the opener on
Saturday, allowing just three hits and one walk with five
strikeouts.

SOFTBALL
BRENAE PETTIT, Virginia Wesleyan, Junior,
Outfielder
Pettit, a junior from Onancock, Va., helped
the Marlins to a 3-1 showing at the Beach Blast Tournament at the
dish and with her legs. Pettit rapped six hits in eight at bats for
a .750 batting average. She collected a pair of multi-hit games
amongst the four, recording at least one hit in each contest. She
scored four runs and drove in four others. She also stole three
bases, including a pair in the Marlins 4-1 win over Old
Westbury.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE
GINA VALLES, Roanoke, Senior,
Midfielder
Valles, a senior from South Windsor, Conn.,
became Roanoke's all-time leader in points with her 299th tally in
a win over Hollins last week. The two-time ODAC Player of Year
helped that Maroons to their first conference win of the season
with four goals and six assists. She also collected eight
groundballs, secured six draw controls, and caused three turnovers
from her midfield post. Valles is currently third on the ODAC's
all-time scoring list, needing just four points to move into the
second position.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
CHRISTINA DOUGLAS, Washington and Lee,
Sophomore, No. 1 Singles, No. 2 Doubles
Douglas, a sophomore from Fayetteville, N.Y.,
helped Washington and Lee to a trio of ODAC wins over the weekend,
surrendering just three points in No. 1 singels and No. 2 doubles
action. She and teammate Kerry Cotter topped Randolph-Macon's #2
duo, 8-1, followed by victories over Emory & Henry (8-0) and
Virginia Wesleyan (8-2). She also won from the top singles spot
against the Wasps, topping Ashley Wingate 6-0, 6-0. She was also
leading VWC's Saida Bennou, 5-0, when the Marlin retired
in-set.
