ODAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

BASEBALL
Robert Gallet, Bridgewater, Sophomore,
Pitcher
Gallet, a sophomore from Stafford,
Va., improved to 5-0 on the season with a complete-game 5-1 victory
over Guilford last week. He allowed one run while scattering nine
hits. He walked one and struck out a career-high eight batters.

BASEBALL
Alex Nuttycombe, Bridgewater, Senior,
Shortstop
Nuttycombe, a senior from Newport
News, Va., hit .600 (9-for-15) for the week to help lead the Eagles
to a 3-1 week. Nuttycombe was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and
two RBIs in a 10-9 win over No. 2 ranked CNU. Nuttycombe delivered
the game-winning hit with a walk-off single in the bottom of the
ninth. Against EMU, Nuttycombe added another 3-for-4 day with a
double, a homer and four RBIs. He finished the week by going
3-for-7 in a DH split with Guilford. For the week, he had a
slugging percentage of 1.000 and an on-base percentage of .667. He
scored eight runs and finished with seven RBI.

GOLF
Hunter Weaver, Randolph-Macon,
Junior
Weaver, junior from Orange, Va., tied
for top medalist honors at the Roanoke Invitational with a
three-over 145 at the Roanoke Country Club. He opened with a
three-over 74 in round one before firing an even par 71 in round
two. His efforts helped Randolph-Macon to a third place team
finish. The top finish marks his first collegiate medal finish and
his first top-five showing of the season, which couldn't come at a
better time with the ODAC Championships next on R-MC's
schedule.

MEN'S LACROSSE
Dylan Hoff, Lynchburg, Senior,
Attack
Hoff, a senior from Chester Springs,
Pa., scored eight goals and tallied seven assists last week in a
pair of Hornets' victories. In the process, he broke the school
record for career points and is now first in the Lynchburg record
books with 265 total points. Hoff also snagged three ground balls
and caused a turnover in the week. In a 16-6 win over CNU, Hoff
poured in five goals and dished out four assists. He followed that
up with three goals and three more helpers in a 18-4 win over
Guilford. Hoff leads the ODAC in goals (42) and points (65).

MEN'S TENNIS
Peter Hawkins, Bridgewater, Junior, No. 1
Singles, No. 1/2 Doubles
Hawkins, a junior from Silver Spring,
Md., turned in a stellar week on the courts for the Bridgewater
Eagles men’s tennis team as the Silver Spring, Md. native
went 3-1 in top flight singles action and notched an identical 3-1
week in doubles play to propel the Eagles to a 4-0 stretch. Hawkins
opened the week with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Emory & Henry’s
Matt Nelson before claiming a 6-4, 6-1 win over Roanoke’s
James Lee. On Saturday, Hawkins dropped a hard-fought 4-6, 6-4, 1-6
decision to Guilford’s Tyler Mercier before recovering on
Sunday to post a 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 victory over Virginia
Wesleyan’s Brian Luke. In doubles action, Hawkins and
teammate Christian Lynn started the week with an 8-4 loss at Emory
& Henry before earning a hard-fought 9-8 victory against
Roanoke with both matches coming at number two. On Friday at home
against Guilford, Hawkins and Lynn notched an 8-6 win before
reigning supreme on Sunday against Virginia Wesleyan’s duo at
number one by an 8-6 gap. Bridgewater moved into second in the ODAC
with the four team wins, improving to 8-1 in conference play.

OUTDOOR TRACK
Dan Nafziger, Eastern Mennonite,
Sophomore, Steeplechase
Nafziger, a sophomore from
Harrisonburg, Va., tried his hand at the 3000-meter steeplechase on
Saturday, and broke the school record in the event in his first
try. Nafziger crossed in 9:55.04, breaking the EMU record of
9:55.26, whicih was set by Lynn Stoltzfus in 1994. His time is the
sixth fastest in the ODAC this season and one of only six marks to
crack the 10-minute mark.

OUTDOOR TRACK
Carmen Graves, Roanoke, Junior,
Mid-Distance
Graves, a junior from Christiansburg,
Va., made plenty of noise in her spring debut at the Sea Ray Relays
hosted by the University of Tennessee. She ran in the featured
"Showcase 800-meter Race" against several top ranked NCAA Division
I runners and professional athletes. She placed 8th overall,
breaking her own ODAC and Roanoke records with a time of 2:08.51,
more than nine seconds faster than the next closest runner in the
ODAC seasonal rankings. Her time is also the best in NCAA Division
III this season by over a 1.5 seconds.

SOFTBALL
Heather Lewis, Randolph-Macon, Junior,
Pitcher
Lewis, a junior from Glen Allen, Va.,
led the Jackets to a 7-1 record in ODAC play last week as she
tossed a trio of complete games, including a pair of shutouts. She
has now won seven straight starts, improving her overall record to
13-3 on the year. Lewis opened the week with a five-hit shutout of
Randolph College in which she struck out four and walked one. She
backed that with another seven inning effort against Lynchburg,
allowing no earned runs in helping her team defeat the Hornets for
the first time in any of the current Yellow Jackets' careers. On
Sunday, Lewis brought her weekly innings total to 21 in
surrendering just one run on eight hits in a 2-1 win over Guilford.
That victory helped the squad tie the all-time single season wins
record at R-MC with 24 (24-set in 2008).

SOFTBALL
Felice Lowery, Roanoke, Senior,
Outfielder/Catcher
Lowery, a senior from Madison Heights,
Va., batted .667 last week (14-for-21) with six doubles, a triple,
three homers, eight runs scored and 13 runs batted in during the
Maroons' 5-1 week. Not only did she have one hit in each game, but
she also had one extra-base knock in all six contests. In a sweep
of Eastern Mennonite to open the week, Lowery went 3-for-7 with
three doubles, two RBI and a run scored. She added two more
doubles, another RBI and a run scored in a split with Bridgewater.
She capped her week on Roanoke's Senior Day by going 8-for-8 in a
sweep of Sweet Briar. In game one, she belted three homers and hit
a triple on her way to five RBI and four runs scored. Lowery batted
in five more runs in the night cap while collecting four more hits,
including a double. For the season, Lowery is hitting .418 with
five homers and 26 RBI. She also boasts a .692 slugging
percentage.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Katie Freeman, Bridgewater, Sophomore,
Attack
Freeman, a sophomore from Fairfax,
Va., turned in a stellar week on the lacrosse pitch, helping to
lead the Eagles to a 2-0 week. In Wednesday’s matchup at
Sweet Briar, the sophomore stuck a pair of shots in the back of the
net and registered an assist to help lead the Eagles to a 15-12
victory over the Vixens. On Saturday afternoon, Freeman posted a
co-game high five goals and dished out a helper to lead the Eagles
to a 13-12 double overtime win over the Marlins. The sophomore
registered the game-winner in Saturday’s win.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Katy Bergey, Bridgewater, Sophomore, No.
1/2 Singles, No. 1 Doubles
Bergey, a sophomore from Harrisonburg,
Va., stayed red-hot in singles and doubles action to help lead the
Bridgewater Eagles women’s tennis team to a perfect 3-0 week
on the courts. The sophomore opened the week with a 6-3, 6-1 win
over Roanoke’s Corbin Leitch before posting a 6-1, 6-0
triumph on Saturday against Guilford’s Natalie Sutton. On
Sunday, Bergey bumped up to number one singles and claimed a 6-1,
6-0 win over Virginia Wesleyan’s Jordan Hill. In doubles
action, Bergey also went unbeaten with teammate Katie Gordon at
number one doubles. Against Roanoke, the tandem picked up an 8-3
victory before posting an 8-1 win on Saturday against Guilford.
Bergey and Gordon closed out the week with an 8-1 win at Virginia
Wesleyan.
