ODAC Players of the Week

FOOTBALL
Ralph Martello, Catholic, Sr.,
Linebacker
Martello, a senior from Stamford,
Conn., put together a strong day to lead the Catholic defense in
its 49-0 shutout of Anna Maria on Saturday. Martello led the unit
with 12 stops, including seven solo and one behind the line of
scrimmage. He accounted two of the three turnovers forced by the
Cardinals. At the end of the first quarter, Martello intercepted an
AMCAT pass and stalled a promising Anna Maria drive in CUA
territory. In the third quarter, Martello forced a recovered a
fumble near midfield. The turnover setup the Cardinals final score
of the game. Martello is currently second on the squad with 15
stops, while his two forced and recovered fumbles lead CUA.

FOOTBALL
Marshall Hollerith, Washington and Lee,
Fr., Running Back
Hollerith, a freshman from Richmond,
Va., helped lead the Generals to a 35-24 victory over Sewanee on
Saturday, which marked Washington and Lee's 16th straight home
victory. Hollerith ran for 158 yards and three touchdowns on just
22 carries for an average of 6.9 yards per rush. His efforts were a
large part of W&L's 458-yard rushing day, the seventh-best
single-game total in ODAC history. Hollerith's first two touchdown
runs broke ties with the Tigers, and his final score broke the game
open late in the third quarter. Hollerith is currently eighth in
the ODAC with 213 yards rushing to go with four touchdowns via the
ground.

FIELD HOCKEY
Shelbi Holloman, Roanoke, Fr.,
Attack
Holloman, a freshman from Suffolk,
Va., helped the Maroons win their ODAC opener, although it took
extra time to do it. Both squads played to a scoreless draw thru 70
mintues of action, but Holloman secured the victory for RC by
turning the ninth penalty corner taken by the Maroons into a
game-winner in the 72nd minute. The goal marked Holloman's second
of the season, one which handed VWC its first conference loss in
three games.

GOLF
Brian Burt, Hampden-Sydney,
Jr.
Burt, a junior from Lansing, Mich.,
finished second at the Hampden-Sydney Invitational hosted at The
Manor in Farmville, Va. Burt shot an even-par 144 on the par 72,
7,246-yard track, which helped Hampden-Sydney to a second place
team showing. He opened with a two-under 70 before posting a
two-over 74 on day two. Burt currently leads the ODAC with a 72.8
per round stroke average.

MEN'S SOCCER
Brian White, Roanoke, Sr.,
Midfielder
White, a senior from Virginia Beach,
Va., scored half of the Maroons' goals this week as Roanoke posted
a pair of ODAC victories. White scored twice to open his week in a
3-0 triumph over Emory & Henry. He followed that with another
tally in a 3-0 victory over Eastern Mennonite. White is currently
fifth in the ODAC in points (11) and tied for third in goals scored
(5).

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Holley Beasley, Washington and Lee, Jr.,
Midfielder
Beasley, a junior from Virginia Beach,
Va., provided a pair of game-winners in the Generals 2-0 week
against conference opponents. He first decider came in the 63rd
minute against Roanoke as she supplied the only goal of the game in
a 1-0 win. The drama intensified at Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday
as the winner didn't come until the 120th minute when Beasley broke
a 0-0 deadlock for the Generals' second straight 1-0 victory.
W&L sits atop the conference at 4-0 in the league table.
Beasley has notched 12 points on four goals and four assists, the
latter of which is tied for second in the ODAC.

VOLLEYBALL
Megann Grimes, Bridgewater, Jr., Middle
Hitter
Grimes, a junior from Midland, Va.,
helped the Eagles to a 3-2 week that included a 3-1 showing at the
Gallaudet University Worthington Classic. Grimes had four matches
of nine or more kills, including 13 each in a pair of 3-2 wins over
Gallaudet and Mary Washington. She hit .417 against UMW, adding a
eight blocks and three digs in the Eagles' win. BC's middle hitter
hit .337 for the week and notched 18 total blocks, including four
solo efforts.

CROSS COUNTRY
Andris Goncarovs, Guilford,
Sr.
Goncarovs, a senior from Ithaca, N.Y.,
was the first NCAA Division III finisher to cross the line a the
198-runner Charlotte XC Invitational. The race was split into
University (D-I) and College (D-II, III, NAIA) divisions, which
Goncarovs placing fourth in the latter and 12th overall with a time
of 25:34.6 over the eight-kilometer course. His time is a personal
season-best and sixth fastest in school history.

CROSS COUNTRY
Liz Wade, Virginia Wesleyan,
Jr.
Wade, a junior from Chesapeake, Va.,
placed fifth out of 126 runners at the Don Cathcart Invitational
hosted by Salisbury University. She posted a time of 22:48.4 over
the six-kilometer course, which was the second-best finisher
amongst NCAA Division III participants. Her time marks a
personal-best and the second fastest in program history, just nine
seconds short of Shelby Bryceland's record, which she set in the
same event in 2012.
