ODAC Players of the Week

Thru Week Prior to: March 7, 2016

BASEBALL - PITCHER
John Ruhlman, Roanoke, Jr., Pitcher
Ruhlman, a junior from Virginia Beach., Va., registered for first nine-inning no-hitter in recorded history at Roanoke College in the Maroons' game two 9-0 triumph over Eastern Mennonite as part of a doubleheader split with the Royals. Ruhlman did allow six baserunners -- five via walks and one reached on an error -- but he made up for those with 10 strikeouts, including one as the final out of the game. The Maroons' southpaw is now 1-1 on the season with a 1.69 earned run average and 20 strikeouts in 21.1 innings of work.

BASEBALL - HITTER
Joe Coleman, Shenandoah, Sr., Outfielder
Coleman, a senior from Gaithersburg, Md., reaced base 13 times for a .722 on-base percentage as he helped Shenandoah to a 4-0 record last week. He had three multi-hit games as he went 8-for-13 overall with five runs scored, two runs driven in and five walks. He also stole three bases, including two as part of a 2-for-2 day with two walks. SU defeated City College of New York, 4-1, in that contest, one of three victories in a three-game weekend sweep of CCNY. Coleman was 7-for-9 with four walks in those outings. For the season, Coleman is hitting .405 (15-of-37) with a double, homer, eight RBI and 15 runs scored. His OBP sits at .522.

MEN'S LACROSSE
Josh Currier, Virginia Wesleyan, Sr., Attack
Currier, a senior from Peterborough, Ontario, matched a pair of career-highs in putting together 17 points in the Marlins' 2-0 week. He opened with five goals and four assists for a career-high matching nine points in a 17-5 win over Methodist. He also became the Virginia Wesleyan leader in career assists with his second helper against the Monarchs. Currier continued his hot run with a career-best tying seven goals and an assist in a 21-10 victory over Adrian. He picked up three ground balls for the second straight game. For the season, Currier leads the ODAC with 30 points and 22 goals scored.

MEN'S TENNIS
Will Bannister, Washington and Lee, Jr., #3/4/5 Singles/#1/2 Doubles
Bannister, a junior from Bath, England, helped the Generals to a 2-1 week by going 3-0 in singles play at various flights and 2-1 in doubles action from the first and second ladders. He posted a 6-1, 6-0 #4 singles victory over Lynchburg, and moved up a rung to win 6-4, 6-3 at #3 singles over Randolph College. He capped his singles performance with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at #5 singles in the Generals' match with 12th-ranked Johns Hopkins (L, 3-6). Bannister and doubles partner Jordan Krasner earned back-to-back 8-1 wins from the #1 slot against LC and RAND before falling 8-3 to JHU at #2 doubles. Bannister is 9-2 in singles play and 6-6 in doubles action this season.

SOFTBALL - PITCHER
Courtney Lackey, Guilford, So., Pitcher
Lackey, a sophomore from North Wilkesboro, N.C., picked up a pair of wins last week in both games in which she appeared. She got the start and worked went the distance in a six-inning shortened 8-0 win over Mary Baldwin. She gave up three hits and walked two while fanning five. In a 5-4 victory over Averett, Lackey entered in relief and worked 5.2 innings to get the win. She gave up one run and scattered eight hits while walking one and striking out five. She also helped herself at the dish, driving in the game-winning run in the seventh inning. For the season, Lackey is 4-0 with a 0.98 earned run average. She's struck out 18 batters in 21.1 innings of work.

SOFTBALL - HITTER
Cassetty Howerin, Virginia Wesleyan, So., First Base
Howerin, a sophomore from Dover, Del., continues her assault on the softball in the early season, going 6-for-11 and registering a 1.182 slugging percentage as Virginia Wesleyan swept the Beach Blast. Howerin, the reigning NFCA National Player of the Week, doubled and homer twice amongst her six hits, scoring six run and driving in nine more. She also walked three times and stole a base. She was 2-for-3 with a pair of homers and seven RBI in a 13-0 whitewashing of Buffalo St. She added a double with three walks and two runs scored in a 6-3 trouncing of Rutgers-Camden. She drove in a pair and registered her third walk in a 9-0 victory over Keene St. For the season, Howerin is fourth in the ODAC with a .538 batting average and third with a .649 on-base percentage. She leads the conference in homers (5), RBI (20), walks (9) and slugging (1.192). Her 13 runs rank second.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Megan Schallock, Virginia Wesleyan, So., Midfielder
Schallock, a sophomore from Waukesha, Wis., posted a six-point day in the Marlins 12-11 overtime loss to Frostburg State. Shallock scored a game-high six goals with four coming in the second half. She added match-highs of five ground balls and eight draw controls to go with three caused turnovers. Shallock currently leads the ODAC in points with a league-high 13 goals. She's also #1 with 13 ground balls and 22 draw controls.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Catherine Lee, Roanoke, So., #1/3 Singles
Lee, a sophomore from Jacksonville, Fla., helped the Maroons to a pair of wins over NCAA Division II opponents as they kicked off play in the Spring Break Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, S.C. Lee won a pair of singles matches, including one from the top flight to help Roanoke to a 6-3 win over East Stroudsburg University (Pa.). She won 7-6, 6-2, over Amber Jadus. Lee then powered her way to a 6-4, 7-6, triumph over Sarah Robbins at #3 singles in RC's 9-0 victory over Clarion.
