ODAC 40 Feature: Talking Riding with Randolph's Martin and Mitchell

Talking with Randolph's Martin and Mitchell

FOREST, Va. --- In the ninth installment of ODAC 40 features, we take a look back just a few years to a landmark moment in the athletic history of Randolph College. In 2014, a pair of riders became the first WildCat duo to compete at IHSA nationals, with one capturing the institution's first national championship in any sport.

Former Randolph standouts Reynolds Martin and Meaghan Hynes joined head coach Chris Mitchell in Harrisburg, Pa., for the sport's national championships. Hynes finished third in her division, becoming the first top-three finisher in Randolph history. Martin took WildCat achievements to the next level, winning the novice division of equitation on the flat and becoming the first Randolph national champion.

For Mitchell, the performances were a landmark for the program and the highlight to a long career that now finds him guiding WildCat riders for a fifth straight season. He and Martin join the ODAC in discussing the experience of attending the IHSA nationals and winning a championship, the preparation that went into such a performance, and the effect it has had on the Randolph riding program.
