ODAC Athletes of the Week | Basketball

FOREST, Va. --- The Thanksgiving holiday limited competition to just men's and women's basketball for week 13, with ODAC student-athletes putting together some solid showings despite the lower number of games played. Those earning ODAC Athlete of the Week awards for Monday, November 28, including (pictured left-right): Kylie Stark from Randolph women's basketball and Aviwe Mahlong from Eastern Mennonite men's basketball.

Below are entries for both winners from today's release. The schedule below will be used for reporting ODAC Athletes of the Week:

  • Mondays: basketball, swimming, wrestling
  • Tuesdays: indoor track & field (starts in December)

MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Aviwe Mahlong | Eastern Mennonite | So. | Guard/Forward
Mahlong, a sophomore from Johannesburg, South Africa, helped Eastern Mennonite even its season record at 3-3 by going 2-1 over the past week. Mahlong averaged 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists while shooting 51.3-percent from the field and 77.8-percent from the line over the three outings. He opened with nine points, three rebounds, two assists, and a steal in a 71-59 victory over Goucher. Mahlong then ramped up his production on back-to-back days following the holiday as he posted a career-high 27 points in an 80-68 setback at Lynchburg. He was 10-of-18 from the field including 5-of-8 from deep. He added five rebounds, two steals, and an assist to his line. Mahlong then flirted with triple-double territory in an 80-67 triumph over Marymount University (Va.) the next day. He notched 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting including 2-of-3 from three-point range with a 3-of-3 showing from the foul line. He added eight boards and a career high seven assists plus a steal. For the season, Mahlong is averaging an ODAC sixth-best 17.7 points per game with seventh-most total points (106). He is fourth in minutes played (34.5 mpg) and field goals made (37-of-68), sixth in three-pointers made (14-of-31), seventh in field goal shooting (45.2%), and eighth in steals (11). He is averaging 6.2 rebounds per game.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kylie Stark | Randolph | Jr. | Guard
Stark, a junior from Lynchburg, Va., picks up her second weekly award of the season after leading Randolph to a pair of victories including an ODAC triumph over defending conference champion Shenandoah University. Stark opened with 22 points and five steals in a 75-40 victory over Gallaudet. She was 8-of-13 from the field including 2-of-3 from deep. She added two rebounds and two assists in helping the WildCats to their third win of the season. At Shenandoah, Stark notched 11 points with five rebounds and three steals as Randolph recovered late for a 50-46 win over the Hornets. The WildCats led 21-19 at 6:49 of the second of the quarter, but that would be the last time they would enjoy even a tied score until Stark buried a three-pointer to make it 44-44 with 3:58 to go in the final frame. For the season, Stark is averaging an ODAC second-best 13.8 points on a league-high 83 total points. She is first in free throws made (24-of-31) and steals (18), second in field goals made (27-of-68), and fourth in assists (16).
