ODAC Schools Volunteer For Special Olympics

BLACKSBURG, Va. --- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference and its member schools partnered with Special Olympics Virginia several years ago and the relationship has continued to blossom in many ways. Over the weekend, a few ODAC schools volunteered at the Second Annual Blacksburg Color Me Rad 5k Race to benefit Special Olympics Virginia. Emory & Henry College, Hollins University and Roanoke College served as race marshals for the event.

This was a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) driven event and 50 student-athletes from E&H, HU, and RC dedicated a few hours of their day to assist with the race. Color Me Rad and Special Olympics Virginia had an agreement that for every ODAC volunteer, Color Me Rad would donate $100.00 to Special Olympics Virginia, so the organization will receive $5,000.00. Special Olympics Virginia will use the money to provide programming and state level events for their athletes.

In addition to the Color Me Rad race, ODAC student-athletes will have other volunteer opportunities around the league with Special Olympics this year. The next event will be held on November 2-3 at the Special Olympics Fall Championships in Virginia Beach, Va.
