AMHERST, Va. --- Head tennis
coach Teresa Boylan has been named the
Interim Director of Athletics at Sweet Briar College, as announced
by Dean Amy Jessen-Marshall this
week.
Boylan will be Sweet Briar's official liaison to the NCAA and ODAC,
along with overseeing budgets and managing the Vixens' athletics
staff.
"I have great confidence in Teresa's ability to help shepherd the
department," said Dean Jessen-Marshall. "I would like to thank her
for taking on this responsibility."
Boylan is entering her seventh season as the Vixens' head tennis
coach. She has brought multiple nationally-ranked recruiting
classes to Sweet Briar, along with coaching an NCAA national
qualifier in 2011.
She has been involved in a wide range of administrative duties in
recent years with with the Old Dominion Athletic Conference,
Intercollegiate Tennis Association, National Collegiate Athletic
Association, and United States Tennis Association
organizations. Boylan has served as Sweet Briar's Senior
Woman Administrator since 2010. She was the ODAC Women's Tennis
Chair for the past two years, and previously spent two years as an
NCAA Regional Advisory Committee representative.
"This is a positive opportunity to continue working with a
supportive and pro-active department on a more administrative level
while continuing to coach our tennis program, which I truly enjoy,"
said Boylan.
"Our coaches and teams want to be productive and competitive, and
it is my objective to guide our department in that positive
direction. I am appreciative of Dean Amy Jessen-Marshall, and
my department, for their support of me in this new position."
Boylan earned a bachelor of science in education from Cleveland
State University, and later earned a master's degree in Sport
Management and Exercise Science.
In 1997 she became the head women's tennis coach at Cleveland
State, and later took over the men's program as well- a team she
restarted after a seven-year hiatus.
Boylan was the 2001 Horizon League Coach of the Year, and also
received the ITA/USTA Nancy Mickler Community Service Award during
her time at CSU. Her teams also led the CSU athletic department in
GPA for three straight years.
Prior to coaching at Sweet Briar, Boylan was the Coordinator of New
Tennis Programs at the River Oaks Racquet Club in Rocky River,
Ohio. She introduced Cardio Tennis, Youth Rally Ball, World
Team Tennis and USTA sanctioned tournaments to the club.
In recent years she has coached with the USTA Mid-Atlantic Section,
leading a U18 team to the 2012 national tournament in
California.
