Generals' Runner Awarded Third ODAC/Farm Bureau Honor of 2013-14
FOREST, Va. --- Washington and Lee
University standout runner, Annelise Madison, received her third
ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete award of the
2013-14 campaign, earning this accolade via her participation in
outdoor track & field. Madison was tabbed from a pool of
nominees in each sport by a vote of each of the conference's sports
information directors.
The ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar Athlete Award
is given to a student-athlete in each of the conference's 23
sponsored sports. Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance is the
presenter of each of the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance
Scholar-Athlete Awards, forming a partnership with the ODAC to
emphasize the NCAA Division III philosophy of the complete
student-athlete experience. To be eligible for the award, a
student-athlete must be at least a sophomore standing and have
spent at least one full academic year at the nominating
institution, must maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point
average, and must have participated in at least 50-percent of the
team's events as a starter or key contributor.
Madison, a senior from Roca, Neb., has now won four overall
ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete awards,
adding the 2013 outdoor track laurel to this season's trio of
honors. She received the conference's highest scholar-athlete
recognition last month when she was tabbed the Berkley Award winner
by the ODAC's Board of Directors.
Madison boasted a 3.998 grade point average as a History and
Politics double-major. A member of Phi Beta Kappa and
Pi Beta Phi, Madison earned several scholarships and grants,
including a W&L's Johnson Scholarship. She also earned
the Johnson Opportunity Grant, which afforded her the opportunity
to volunteer at the Ghana Alliance for Community Transformation
(Ghana ACT) in Ho, Ghana. She was a two-time
Capital One Division III Academic All-District® honoree,
earning that distinction in 2014 in addition to an All-District
laurel in 2013. She owned a spot on the District 5 First Team
this season, which made her eligible for CoSIDA Academic
All-America consideration. She also recently earned W&L's
William D. McHenry Female Scholar-Athlete Award.
Outdoors on the track, Madison holds the Washington and
Lee record in the 1,500-meter-run (4:37.84), which she set in 2013.
At the 2014 ODAC Outdoor Track & Fiedl Championships, Madison
took second in the 1,500-meter (4:39.64), the 800-meter (2:21.34)
and the 5,000-meter (18:20.21) runs.
"We are proud of the accomplishments of every one of our
student-athletes," says ODAC commissioner Brad Bankston. "It is
especially gratifying to be able to recognize those who personify
the definition of ‘student-athlete' through these awards, and
we are proud to be affiliated with Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance
in this program."
