HU's Poole Named Rider of the Year, Gerald Top Coach for Second Straight Year
ROANOKE, Va. --- Hollins University posted a
10-point victory at the 2011 ODAC Equestrian Championships on
Friday afternoon, racking up 21 points on the way to winning its
second straight and record 19th ODAC title at the Hollins Riding
Center. Sweet Briar College and Washington and Lee University
tied with 11 points, but it was the Vixens that were awarded the
Reserve finish. Bridgewater College and Randolph College
posted eight-point days, and Lynchburg College secured seven
markers.
HU's Emma Lane Poole recorded a 84.375 average over three
disciplines to top the 10-rider All-ODAC Team and earn ODAC Rider
of the Year honors. Hollins head coach Sandy Gerald collected
a second-straight ODAC Coach of the Year award, his sixth overall
accolade. Sweet Briar's Olivia Smith was tabbed the ODAC
Rookie of the Year, having also earned a spot on the All-ODAC
Team. The Generals' Tamara Morse also turned a double,
positioning herself on the All-ODAC Team and winning her second
straight ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Rider Award.
The top 10 finishers at the ODAC Championships earn a place on the
All-ODAC Team. That contingent is listed below, along with
their final point averages. Full results will be posted
shortly.
