Guilford Leads Way with Top Team Ranking
SALEM, Va. --- With the 2007-08 golf season
mid-way through its truncated fall schedule, ODAC student-athletes
have pushed their own individual rankings, not to mention their
team ratings, to the top of the Golfstat performance charts
(www.golfstat.com).
Through play on October 1, Guilford College was rated #1 in the
Golfstat NCAA Division III standings with a combined 244-5 record
and a 73.33 adjusted scoring average per round. The Quakers
are closely trailed by Methodist University and Huntingdon
College. Individually, the Quakers hold the top three spots
in the nation as well as five of the top seven and seven within the
top 20. Peter Latimer, last season's ODAC Freshman of the
Year, is rated #1 overall followed by teammates Jonathan Wade and
Brian Creghan in second and third. Liam McGowan and Scott
Miller occupy the sixth and seventh spots while Charles Dean and
Burton Wood sit 16th and 20th,
respectively.
Nathaniel James has Washington & Lee University also among the
nation's best. The Generals' senior is the fourth ranked
individually and has helped his squad to 32nd in
golfstat's team rankings.
Hampden-Sydney College, rated 38th in the country,
boasts a pair of players in the top 20. Bob Boykin sits in
striking-distance of the top ten in 12th position, and
Nick Combs remains only a few spots in back of his teammate at the
15th spot.
While the Yellow Jackets do not have an individual ranked higher
than 77th (Ralston King) in the country, Randolph-Macon
College's balanced squad has the team entrenched as the
28th-ranked team. The Jackets benefit from the
second most effective freshman class in the nation.
Bridgewater College and Roanoke College sit 42nd and
97th in the nation, sequentially. Colten Ray is
the top-ranked Eagle at #41, and the Maroons did not have anyone
listed among the top 150-ranked student-athletes. Emory &
Henry College, Lynchburg College and Virginia Wesleyan College did
not appear in the team standings.
