Roanoke, W&L Shoot 311, Gain Five Strokes on Quakers
CAPE CHARLES, Va. --- Guilford College
maintained control of the 2009 ODAC Golf Championships thru the
second round of play, but its lead shrank as both Washington and
Lee University and Roanoke College fired 311 to gain five strokes
each on the tourney leaders. The Quakers' round of 316 on Bay
Creek's Arnold Palmer Signature Course gave them a 634 two round
total, six shots clear of W&L's 640.
Guilford's Peter Latimer maintained the individual lead with a
four-over 76, leaving him six strokes ahead (73-76-149) of
Bridgewater College's John Phillips (76-79-155). Roanoke's
Adam Skaff (82-75-157) and Washington and Lee's Brad Watts
(82-75-157) share third place.
Saturday's best round went to Lynchburg College's Ryan White.
The Hornet senior shot a one-over 73, matching Latimer's first
round total for best round of the tournament. White currently
sits 20th after making up 19 shots from his opening
round 92. As a squad, Lynchburg improved 24 shots with a 317
compared to its first round 341. Roanoke bettered its opening
round 334 by 23 strokes.
The tourney's final round switches back to Bay Creek's Jack
Nicklaus Signature Course on Monday.
