SU's Singhass, VWC's Cox, R-MC's Struhar and W&L's Hurst also Honored

FOREST, Va. --- Guilford College standout Drew Thompson highlights the 2015 ODAC Men's Golf Awards as he was tabbed the ODAC Men's Golfer of the Year in a vote of the league's head coaches.  Shenandoah University mentor Scott Singhass earned Jack Jensen Coach of the Year accolades, while Virginia Wesleyan College's Evan Cox took home ODAC Rookie of the Year recognition.  Kirby Struhar secured the Ted Keller Sportsman Award for Randolph-Macon College for the second year running, and Washington and Lee University's Conley Hurst earned the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete award.

Thompson, a senior from Pickerington, Ohio, put together a strong final campaign heading into the conference tournament, finishing in the top-10 in three out of nine events competed.  His 73.70 scoring average topped the ODAC charts, helping him to a #22 ranking in the NCAA Division III rankings published by Golfstat.  Thompson tied for sixth at the Gordin Classic, added a tie for seventh at the Emory Spring Invitational, and tied for 10th at the O'Briant-Jensen Invitational.  Each tournament featured several teams ranked in the national top-25.  Thompson, who finished outside of the top-15 in a tournament only once, fired a season-low 69 at the Wynlakes Intercollegiate.

Singhass, in his ninth year guiding the Shenandoah men's program, helped lead the Hornets to 312.0 team scoring average entering the tournament, more than seven strokes per round lower than a season ago.  SU earned a trio of top-three team performances, placing third at both the Shenandoah Invitational and Ted Keller Memorial in the fall.  The Hornets entered the ODAC Tournament on the right foot, tying for first in the points standings at the Glenn Heath Shipbuilders Memorial to cap the regular season.

Cox, a freshman from Ashland, Ky., entered the ODAC Tournament with a 75.89 scoring average, ninth in the conference.  In eight regular season events, Cox finished in the top-10 four times with a pair of top-five showings.  He tied for fourth in the Scarlett section of the Camp LeJeune Intercollegiate, and added a tie for fifth at the TaylorMade adidas Intercollegiate.  He posted a season-low 70, two-under-par, at the Tom Kinder Memorial.

Hurst, a sophomore from Little Rock, Ark., maintains a 3.800 grade point average as a history major.  He is a member of the W&L Dean's List as well as the All-ODAC Academic Team.  He's also been a participant in the W&L Science, Society and the Arts Conference.  On the course, Hurst entered the ODAC Tournament with a Generals-best 76.4 scoring average, which ranked 12th in the ODAC.  The 2014 ODAC individual runner-up has finished in the top-five in two events this season, finishing third at the Al Jones Jr. Memorial and tied for fifth a the Royal Lakes Invitational.  His low-round of the season, a four-under-par 68, came in round two at the RLI.  He adds this honor to an All-ODAC First Team selection this season.

The Ted Keller Sportsmanship Award is named after former Randolph-Macon College head coach Ted Keller.  Each team nominates a player for the sportsmanship award, with the coaches determining one to win the award. Struhar was this season's honoree.  A freshman from Sterling, Va., Struhar competed in seven events prior to the ODAC Tournament, racking up a 77.46 scoring average, second on the squad.  His best round of the season was a one-under-par 69 in round two at Camp LeJeune.
