Hollins Names Scott Frasier New Golf Head Coach

ROANOKE, Va. --- Scott Frasier has been named head golf coach at Hollins University.  Frasier has been tabbed to succeed Bill Mannino, who stepped down as head coach to assume the role of Athletic Director, and will take over the day to day operations of the program immediately.

Mannino is extremely pleased that Frasier will be taking over the day to day operations of the golf program.  “I’m delighted to have Scott as our new head golf coach.  Scott was D3 golfer and truly understands the philosophy.”  Mannino continued, “His background as a PGA member and advocate of the First Tee program shows how much he loves and wants to grow the game.  Our golfers will benefit from his passion and knowledge.”

Frasier is currently the assistant pro at Ole Monterey Golf Club in Roanoke, continuing his work at Valley area golf clubs.  In 2003, Frasier began his work with Roanoke area junior golf as head pro at Hunting Hills Country Club.  Under his tutelage, the junior golf team at Hunting Hills won the Roanoke Valley Junior Hall of Fame three different times.  After Hunting Hills, Frasier served as the head or assistant professional at Lexington Country Club, Ashley Plantation, and Botetourt Golf and Swim Club.

“I’m excited about being selected to lead the golf program at Hollins University.  It is an honor to succeed Bill (Mannino) and continue the tradition that has been established here at Hollins.”

In addition to teaching as a professional at different golf clubs, Frasier has served as a certified First Tee coach since 2010.  First Tee’s mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.

“Teaching/mentoring has been my first love among the many aspects of my 17 years of work in the golf business.”  Frasier added, “It has been so gratifying to be able to help develop young talent in the Valley.  Thru the First Tee program, I have learned that the development of character and golf skills are uniquely tied together and I look forward to bringing these teaching techniques and my experiences to the collegiate level.”

Frasier has strong ties to Division III golf having played at SUNY Cortland.  During his collegiate playing career, Frasier earned the opportunity to compete in the NCAA Division III National Championships.  After graduation, Frasier continued to excel on the course and later in his career was able to continue his winning ways.  In 2005 Frasier won the Mid-Atlantic PGA Senior Head Pro Championship and one year later added the Virginia State Senior Open Championship to his resume.
