HOUSTON, Texas --- The 17th-ranked Washington and Lee women's golf team finished in a tie for 11th-place out of 25 teams at the NCAA Division III Championship held at the Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas.
The Generals finished strong, shooting a 315 on Friday to tie for 11th with Washington University of St. Louis. W&L finished with a +124 score of 311-323-327-315—1276 to claim its highest-ever placing at the championship. The 2015 squad finished in 14th-place.
Third-ranked NYU claimed the team title with a +65 score of 311-302-310-294—1217. Sixth-ranked Williams finished second with a 309-306-300-307—1222 (+70).
Cordelia Chan of Williams College won the individual title by a single stroke, shooting 75-75-74-72—296 (+8). Arshia Mahant of NYU was second, one stroke back.

W&L sophomore Laurie Jones (Atlanta, Ga. / Blessed Trinity) finished the tournament in a tie for 28th-place out of the 81 golfers that made the cut, shooting a +25 score of 75-82-79-77—313.
Junior Griffin Foultz (San Antonio, Texas / St. Mary's Hall) and sophomore Beth Ann Townsend (Greenville, S.C. / Travelers Rest) both tied for 47th overall at +31. Foultz carded a 76-81-82-80—319 and Townsend shot 78-78-81-82—319.
First-year Savannah Johnson (Owens Cross Roads, Ala. / Huntsville) tied for 60th with an 82-82-85-76—325 (+37) and sophomore Hannah Wright (Thompsons Station, Tenn. / Battle Ground Academy) finished with her two lowest rounds of the tournament on the final two days, placing 81st with a 103-97-92-92—384 (+96).
Washington and Lee has now completed its 2018-19 campaign.
