ODAC Announces All-ODAC Women's Golf Awards

FOREST, Va. --- Three-time defending ODAC champion Washington and Lee University collected five all-conference honors in addition to a pair of individual special awards to headline the 2021 All-ODAC Women's Golf Awards.

Generals' sophomore Megan Kanaby earned her second straight ODAC Golfer of the Year award, while mentor Kelsie Carralero was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year for the second time in as many seasons. University of Lynchburg first-year Emily Brubaker picked up ODAC Rookie of the Year recognition. Bridgewater College sophomore Savannah Scott received ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete laurels from the league's athletic communications personnel, and Sweet Briar College junior Annika Kuleba garnered ODAC Sportswoman of the Year plaudits.

In the sections below, we breakdown the honors from the 2020-21 ODAC women's golf campaign.

ODAC GOLFER OF THE YEAR
Washington and Lee sophomore Megan Kanaby has put together a second straight strong campaign. She enters the NCAA Championships as the 14th-ranked player in the country by Golfstat. Kanaby leads the ODAC with a 77.4 scoring average, making her the lone ODAC player to post a sub-80 average. She won the ODAC Championships individual medal after posting rounds of 73 and 76 to finish at 5-over 149. That was eight strokes better than second place finisher Emily Erickson from Lynchburg. Kanaby previously won the Hill City Invitational at 6-over 150 (76-74). She finished second at the Browngolf Intercollegiate at 17-over 161 (80-81). Kanaby was equally impressive against an all Division I field at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate hosted by the College of William & Mary, tying for 16th at 21-over 237 (78-82-77).

ODAC COACH OF THE YEAR
Generals' mentor Kelsie Carralero is in her second season guiding the W&L women's program and this marks her second ODAC top coaching honor. A former four-time All-American at Methodist University, Carralero and the Generals are preparing to enter the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships as the nationally 16th-ranked team in the country according to Golfstat. In addition to a third straight ODAC championship victory, Washington and Lee captured first place finishes at the Hill City Invitational as well as the Browngolf Intercollegiate.

ODAC ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Lynchburg first-year Emily Brubaker was stellar in her first season at Lynchburg, leading a strong group of young golfers with top-five finishes in five of six events competed. That included individual medals at the WildCat Golf Classic (+8 - 79) and The Greenbrier Women's Intercollegiate, the latter of which she finished at 1-under 143 (71-72). She closed her first season tying for third at the ODAC Championships at 16-over 160 (81-79).

ODAC/VIRGINIA FARM BUREAU SCHOLAR-ATHLETE
Bridgewater sophomore Savannah Scott pairs this honor with a selection to the All-ODAC Second Team. In the classroom, Scott boasts a 3.953 grade point average as a computer science and history/data administration double major. She earned All-ODAC Academic Team honors last season, a distinction she will likely repeat this year. She was also tabbed a WGCA All-American Scholar as a first-year in 2019-20.

On the course, Scott finished seventh in the ODAC with an 84.9 scoring average. Five times she placed in the top-five of events, including wins at the Max and Susan Stith Invitational (+8 - 80) and Bridgewater Spring Shootout (+12 - 84). She finished in a tie for 12th at the ODAC Championships at 30-over 174 (89-85).

ODAC SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR
Sweet Briar junior Annika Kuleba has been a positive influence for the Vixens on and off the course. Kuleba posted an 88.0 average playing with her teammates in six events this year. She finished in a tie for 16th at the ODAC championships at 33-over 177 (90-87). She tied for first at the Marlin Invitational with a 9-over 81. Off the course, Kuleba excels as an environmental sciences and economics major, having earned multiple Dean's List honors as well as two nods as a WGCA All-American Scholar.
