RMC for Women, GC and VWC Move on in Men's Bracket
ASHLAND, Va. --- A pair of men's teams and one
women's squad will represent the ODAC in the NCAA Division III Men
and Women's Basketball "Sweet Sixteen" sectionals next
weekend. Randolph-Macon College, hosting its own
regional this weekend, moves on to the women's final 16 showdown
while Virginia Wesleyan College and Guilford College continue their
seasons in the men's field.
Randolph-Macon led by as many as 25 points on the way to
dispatching William Paterson University (N.J.)
74-59. Sophomore All-ODAC First Team selection Lindsey
Riesbeck led the Yellow Jackets with 25 points and seven rebounds
while senior Salem Shaffer continued her hot shooting with 22
points and six boards. Senior point guard Kristen Morgan
added eight points, seven boards and four assists.
Randolph-Macon (26-4) moves on to play Kean University (26-3) at
the Jerome S. Cole Sports Center on the campus of New York
University. Kean defeated Messiah College 89-84 on
Saturday evening.
In a rematch of the first ODAC men's tournament semifinal, Virginia
Wesleyan continued its quest for a second straight national title
with a 61-51 victory over Hampden-Sydney
College. Brandon Adair dropped in 17 points while TonTon
Balenga added 16 and Tyler Fantin 14 markers.
The Marlins (25-4) will remain home for at least one more contest
as they have been tabbed to host an NCAA sectional round for the
second straight season. VWC will match up with Mississippi
College (27-2) in its first sectional game. Mississippi
defeated Maryville College (Tenn.) 76-56 to move on in the
tournament.
Guilford avenged its early exit from the ODAC tournament with an
80-73 victory over host Johns Hopkins University. ODAC
Player of the Year, Ben Strong, led all scorers with 29 points to
go with nine rebounds. Fellow first teamer Jordan Snipes
and Clay Henson chipped in 12 points apiece, and Caleb Kimbrough
added 10 points.
The Quakers (23-4) will also travel to Virginia Wesleyan for its
sectional opener. Guilford will take on Lincoln University
(20-8) in its opening contest. Lincoln topped Catholic
University 81-70 to win its regional.
All sectional games will be played on Friday, March 9, and
Saturday, March 10.
