ODAC Basketball Tournament Seeds Set

Guilford Men, Roanoke Women Earn Top Draws

SALEM, Va. --- The pairings for the 2009 ODAC Men and Women's Basketball Tournaments feature of pair of teams with championship pedigree holding down the #1 seeds.  Guilford College earns top billing on the men's side for the second straight season after churning out a 14-2 conference record, 21-4 overall.  The Quakers won their first ODAC crown in 2008.  Roanoke College returns to the top of the ODAC women's postseason seedings for the first time since 1997.  The Maroons go in search of the program's 14th conference title and first since the 2000 campaign.

The ODAC tournaments are set to begin Tuesday, February 24 and continue to "Championship Sunday" on March 2.  The men's first round games will be played at the campuses of the #6, #7 and #8 seeds.  All remaining tournament games will be played in the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia.

Randolph-Macon (20-5, 14-2 ODAC) goes into the men's tourney as the second seed.  The Yellow Jackets tied with Guilford in terms of conference record, but the head-to-head tie-breaker secured the top seed for GC.  Roanoke College (19-6, 11-5) and Bridgewater College (14-11, 10-6) maintain the third and fourth seeds.  Eastern Mennonite (15-10, 9-7) will meet BC in the quarterfinals as the fifth seed. 

Hampden-Sydney College (12-13, 7-9) will host one of three ODAC men's first round contests.  The #6 Tigers play host to 11th seeded Lynchburg (4-21, 2-14) with the winner advancing to play Roanoke in the quarterfinals.  Seventh-seeded Virginia Wesleyan (13-12, 7-9) hosts #10 Randolph College (6-18, 3-13).  The winner of that contest meets Randolph-Macon at the Salem Civic Center.  Washington and Lee (13-12, 6-10) hosts the remaining first round event as the eighth seed.  Ninth-seeded Emory & Henry College (11-14, 5-11) travels to Lexington with the winner squaring off with Guilford in the quarters.

Randolph-Macon (20.5, 173), winners of three of the past four women's titles, opens the tourney as the #2 seed.  Virginia Wesleyan (17-8, 14-6) maintains the third position.  Bridgewater (15-10, 13-7) matches its men's contingent as the four seed with Washington and Lee (14-11, 13-7) holding the fifth spot.  Guilford (11-14, 10-10) returns to the ODAC postseason as the sixth seed while Eastern Mennonite (13-12, 8-12) and Lynchburg (9-16, 7-13) round out the field as the seventh and eighth seeds.
