ODAC Players of the Week: December 14

Basketball Only Sport in Action

With the holiday season quickly drawing near, most of the ODAC sports are winding down for a bit of a hiatus.  Men's and women's basketball were still in action over the past seven days, and will continue to have games spotted throughout the schedule over the next several weeks.

On the men's side, Steven Echols helped Lynchburg to a trio of victories, including an ODAC win over cross-town rival Randolph.  Echols scored in double figures in each contest, but it was his clutch play in an overtime win against Christopher Newport that stood out.  His bucket late in the contest sent the game into overtime.  He then went on to score 11 of Lynchburg's 12 points in the extra frame, including the game-winning three-pointer with 1.4 seconds to play.  He finished with 33 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

For the women, Maggie Davis led Virginia Wesleyan to a record-setting defensive effort in its win over Randolph.  Davis, who scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds, blocked six shots to tie VWC's single-game record and set a new career-high.  Her half-dozen rejections were a part of 11 for the Marlins, setting a new team record.
