Hoops Returns to Action with Strong Performances
The holiday seasons are behind us as we look forward to the
remainder of the 2010 athletic schedules. Men's and women's
basketball were the first sports to return to action in the ODAC,
and strong performances dotted the headlines on each side of the
ball.
Guilford College's Tyler Sanborn notched his first career ODAC
Player of the Week award by leading the Quakers to five victories
over the break. Sanborn notched five double-doubles while
scoring at least 21 points in each contest. He was named the
MVP at the Marietta Shrine Tournament, and was named to the Lon
Varnell Classic All-Tournament Team. For the five games, he
averaged 23.4 points, 13.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocked shots while
shooting 69.6-percent from the field (48-of-68). The Quakers
are currently ranked #6 by D3hoops.com.
Molly Ariail helped Randolph-Macon College to a 1-1 week as the
Yellow Jackets reclaimed a spot in the D3hoops.com Top-25
poll. Ariail collected her fifth double-double of the season
with 18 points and 15 rebounds against Christopher Newport.
She followed that outing with 22 points, nine boards, four blocks
and four steals in an ODAC victory over Washington and Lee.
For the season, Ariail is tops in the conference in scoring and
rebounding, and ranks fourth in field goal percentage (.500) and
blocked shots (1.57).
