Athletes Shine in All Arenas
SALEM, Va. --- Action in ODAC winter sports
continued over the past week, and several athletes enjoyed banner
weeks. Whether it came from a 30-plus point game in
basketball, a multiple event winner in swimming, or new top times
in track, ODAC athletes shined in all arenas.
In swimming, Washington and Lee's Sarah Simpson picked up her
second weekly honor of the season in helping lead the Generals to a
double-dual win over Catholic and Marymount. Simpson won the
100-yard and 200-yard freestyle events, while also swimming a leg
on the winning 200-yard medley relay team.
Men's track saw 2009 national meet participant Michael Allen take
to the indoor facility for his first competition of the
season. The Eastern Mennonite sophomore set two new ODAC top
season marks with a win in the long jump and a third place finish
in the triple jump at the Orange & Maroon Classic hosted by
Susquehanna University.
Courtney Hartman had a strong 2010 debut at Susquehanna as she was
the top NCAA Division III finisher in a pair of events -- the
55-meter and 200-meter dashes. She placed sixth overall in
55-meter hurdles, and ran a leg on the 4x400-meter relay team that
finished fourth.
Guilford's Clay Henson was one of several standout performers in
men's basketball. Henson knocked down 14-of-24 three-pointers
in a pair of Quaker wins. He registered games of 30 and 28
points, hitting eight three-pointers in a victory over Roanoke.
Jordan Gholson helped lead Roanoke women's basketball to a pair of
conference victories. Averaged 15 points and recorded her
third double of the season in the Maroons' two wins, and she also
became the program's all-time leader in blocked shots with three
rejections against Bridgewater. She celebrated with six more
blocked shots against Guilford to move into fifth all-time in ODAC
history.
