LC Rolls to NCAA Tournament Win Over Scranton

DELAWARE, Ohio --- Lynchburg College used a 22-0 first-half run to open a double-digit lead and cruise to a 82-55 win Friday over Scranton University in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Division III men's basketball tournament, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.

Scranton opened a 10-3 lead over the first 7:30 of the game before the LC offense got untracked. A huge 22-0 run over the next six minutes by the Hornets gave LC a 25-10 advantage and Lynchburg took a 40-26 lead into intermission.

Lynchburg put the game away early in the second half, unleashing another big run. LC used a 19-2 surge over the first five minutes to take a 59-28 edge and the Hornets led by at least 23 the rest of the way.

Lynchburg shot 48 percent from the floor (29-61) and 52 percent from three-point range (13-25) while holding the Royals to just 29 percent shooting overall (18-63) and nine percent from beyond the three-point arc (2-24).

Junior guard Zack Burnett poured in a game-high 19 points along with a full stat line of 19 points, seven steals, six rebounds, five assists and four three pointers. Senior forward Austen Arnold netted 17 points and senior forward Alex Graves had 10 points and seven caroms. Junior guard Lyndon White tallied 10 points and five rebounds while senior guard Daniel Rowe added eight points and two three pointers. Senior guard A.J. Hamilton had seven points and five rebounds.

Brendan Boken led Scranton (19-8) with 13 points, but needed 19 field-goal attempts to reach his team-high point total. He added nine rebounds and Drew Schankweiler had nine points, a game-best 10 rebounds and two blocked shots.

Lynchburg (23-6) moves on to second-round play at Ohio Wesleyan Saturday. The Hornets will face OWU at 7 p.m. for the right to earn a spot in the Sweet 16.
