Hornets sixth in NSCAA poll
FOREST, Va. --- The NCAA released its second
set of regional rankings for the fall team sports (except football)
on Wednesday and Lynchburg College men’s soccer sits seventh
in the South Atlantic Region.
NCAA Division III men's soccer is comprised of eight regions across
the nation. The South Atlantic Region attributes rankings to
eight schools. Emory University currently owns the top spot in
the region with York (Pennsylvania) holding the second
position. William Patterson is third followed by North
Carolina Wesleyan in fourth, Salisbury fifth, Christopher Newport
University in sixth and Richard Stockton in eighth to round out the
rankings when combined with Lynchburg.
New rankings will be determined each week through the end of
conference tournament action. The rankings compiled through
the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Committee aid in determining
at-large bids into the NCAA postseason tournament.
Lynchburg (12-4-1 overall, 9-1 ODAC) is also recognized in the
regional coaches' polls conducted by the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America (NSCAA). The Hornets are sixth in that
regional survey.
Two ODAC schools are also represented in the NCAA Division III
national statistics rankings. Lynchburg has a 0.855 save
percentage, which ranks the Hornets 31st as well
as a 0.67 goals-against average, good enough for 41st in
the national rankings. LC goalkeeper Michael Releford is
ranked 14th with a 0.898 save percentage and
25th with a 0.471 goals-against average. Roanoke
College is tied for ninth in shutout percentage (0.71) and is
