ODAC Teams Ready for Start of Conference Slate
FOREST, Va. --- Randolph College finds
itself in unfamiliar but favorable territory heading into the
conference portion of the 2011 men's soccer season. Powered
by an undefeated start and their first victory over a nationally
ranked opponent, the WildCats appear in the D3soccer.com Top-25 Poll, marking their
first appearance in a national survey in program history.
Randolph topped Maryville College (Tenn.) over the weekend,
earning a 2-1 double-overtime victory over the then 15th-ranked
Scots to move to 7-0. Corey Sindle notched the game-winner,
helping him to the ODAC Player of the Week honor. The win
also proved beneficial for WildCats national and regional profile.
Randolph currently sits 25th in the D3soccer.com poll and
also holds down the fifth position in the National Soccer
Coaches Association of the America (NSCAA) South Atlantic Region
poll.
Roanoke College, previously ranked 25th by D3soccer.com, slipped
to 30th after receiving 29 votes from the surveys voting panel.
The Maroons also sit sixth in the NSCAA regional listing.
Preseason favorite Lynchburg College must rely on a roster full of newcomers as the Hornets go in search of their third straight league title. So far, LC has started 2-4-2 overall and has tied both Roanoke and Randolph-Macon College in early conference tilts. In an interview with head coach Chris Yeager, the 2010 NSCAA Division III Coach of the Year, he talked about last season's run, how it has affected this year's team, and what his expectations are for this season.
