ODAC Men's Soccer Spring Season Preview

FOREST, Va. --- Spring soccer comes to the ODAC for the first time in conference history. Each of the league's men's programs are set to compete in a modified season that will feature a conference tournament to determine an ODAC champion.

In the sections below, we recap the last time we saw ODAC soccer compete in 2019 and take a look at what to expect entering the new season. Be sure to have to check out the capsules at the bottom of this page for a more targeted view at each squad entering the spring campaign.

2019 ODAC TOURNAMENT | BRACKET

  • Washington and Lee lifted its sixth overall and second straight ODAC men's soccer title in November 2019 thanks to an 81st minute tally from Harris Salom to defeat Lynchburg, 1-0.
  • The Generals have appeared in 11 overall conference men's championship games, including each of the past five with three titles.
  • Lynchburg finished as the runner-up for the third time in program history; the Hornets have won an ODAC record 16 championships with six coming from ODAC tournaments and the 10 achieved prior to conference tournament being implemented in 1989.
  • The road to the title game for second-seeded W&L started with a 2-0 victory over #7 Virginia Wesleyan in the quarterfinals; the Generals then edged #3 Roanoke, 2-1, in the semifinals
  • Fourth-seeded Lynchburg earned a 2-0 victory over #5 Randolph-Macon in the quarterfinals; the Hornets then went to #1 Hampden-Sydney and played the Tigers to a 2-2 draw thru regulation and two overtime periods; Lynchburg moved on to the title game with a 4-3 win via penalty shootout

2019 NCAA TOURNAMENT | BRACKET

  • Washington and Lee and Roanoke represented the ODAC in the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament.
  • Roanoke traveled to Christopher Newport to square off with Swarthmore College in the first round; the Maroons and Garnet drew 2-2 thru 110 minutes of action; Swarthmore won the ensuing shootout, 4-2, to move on in the tournament.
  • Washington and Lee was selected to host early round action at Watt Field in Lexington; the Generals opened with a 1-0 victory over North Caroline Wesleyan College and then recovered from a 2-1 halftime deficit against Gettysburg Collge with two goals in the second half for a 3-2 victory over the Bullets in the second round.
  • W&L traveled to Swarthmore for sectional round action where they met Tufts University in the third round; the Jumbos scored 1:14 into extra time for a 2-1 OT win over the Generals.
  • Tufts went on to win the national championship via a 2-0 result over Amherst College.

THE SCHEDULE AND TOURNAMENT

  • ODAC men's soccer season will feature an eight game schedule using its existing unbalanced format. The matchups and game locations are the same from would have been played in fall 2020.
  • As is consistent with other ODAC sports, non-conference opportunities can be scheduled at each school's discretion.
  • The ODAC Men's Soccer Tournament will feature four teams with seeding determined by results from conference games. The semifinals will be played at the #1 and #2 seeds on Thursday, April 8. The championship will be hosted by the highest remaining seed on Sunday, April 11.
