Generals Freshman Tabbed Top Rookie in South
OBERLIN, Ohio --- Hayden White has had quite a
rookie year at Washington and Lee University, and his season will
continue on Friday as the recently crowned ITA Atlantic South
Region Rookie of the Year will be the ODAC’s lone
representative at the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Singles
and Doubles Championships. The event will be played at and
hosted by Oberlin College in conjunction with the Greater Cleveland
Sports Commission.
White received his award after placing fourth in singles at the
ITA Small College Championships to post ITA All-America honors
during the fall season. A First Team All-ODAC selection in
both singles and doubles, White was also named the ODAC Rookie of
the Year. He will enter the NCAA competition with a 23-10
singles record and he completed his rookie campaign with a 17-8
doubles ledger. He can move into a tie for fifth-place on the
school’s single-season wins list with two more victories.
The Baltimore-native squares off with junior Sam Sweeney from
North Central College (Ill.). Sweeney went 18-3 during the
spring season and is currently the third-ranked player in the ITA
Central Region rankings. He was also named the ITA Central
Region Player to Watch. White is slotted #5 in the Atlantic
South Region.
