Generals Freshman Tabbed Top Rookie in South

OBERLIN, Ohio --- Hayden White has had quite a rookie year at Washington and Lee University, and his season will continue on Friday as the recently crowned ITA Atlantic South Region Rookie of the Year will be the ODAC’s lone representative at the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships.  The event will be played at and hosted by Oberlin College in conjunction with the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.

White received his award after placing fourth in singles at the ITA Small College Championships to post ITA All-America honors during the fall season.  A First Team All-ODAC selection in both singles and doubles, White was also named the ODAC Rookie of the Year.  He will enter the NCAA competition with a 23-10 singles record and he completed his rookie campaign with a 17-8 doubles ledger.  He can move into a tie for fifth-place on the school’s single-season wins list with two more victories.

The Baltimore-native squares off with junior Sam Sweeney from North Central College (Ill.).  Sweeney went 18-3 during the spring season and is currently the third-ranked player in the ITA Central Region rankings.  He was also named the ITA Central Region Player to Watch.  White is slotted #5 in the Atlantic South Region.
