W&L Men's Tennis Sees Season End in NCAA Second Round

LEXINGTON, Va. --- The 32nd-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team saw its season end with a 5-3 loss to 23rd-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the Upper Courts on Saturday.

The Generals took the No. 2 doubles match as sophomores Jordan Krasner (Rockville, Md. / Walter Johnson) and Will Bannister (Bath, England / Beechen Cliff School) posted a 9-7 win.  However, North Carolina Wesleyan pulled out matches at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles for a 2-1 lead entering singles play.

W&L notched wins at Nos. 1-2 singles, including a 6-3, 6-4 win by junior Michael Holt (Henrico, Va. / Mills Godwin) over Robert Kjellberg, the second-ranked player in the Atlantic South Region.  Senior Christopher Hu (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood) also produced a win over a ranked player when he logged a 7-5, 6-3 win over 11th-ranked Sebastian Sikh at No. 2 singles.  However, the Battling Bishops took matches at Nos. 2-4 singles to close out the match.

The Generals finished with a 15-9 overall record.  NC Wesleyan improved to 17-5 and will take on either Emory or Juniata in the third round on Sunday.
