ATLANTA, Ga. --- The Washington and Lee men's tennis team posted a 5-0 victory over Thomas More in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday afternoon at Emory University.
W&L dropped just seven points on its way to sweeping the doubles competition for a 3-0 lead. Sophomore Harry Shepherd (Ridgewood, N.J. / St. George's School) posted a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles and then classmate Mitchell Thomas(Houma, La. / Vandebilt Catholic) closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles.
The win improved the Generals to 13-6 overall, while the Saints fell to 13-4 on the season.
Washington and Lee advances to Saturday's second round, where it will face host Emory University at 10:00 am.
