Michael Holt, Washington and Lee, So., No. 2 Singles, No. 1 Doubles

Holt, a sophomore from Henrico, Va., put together a 7-1 week as the Generals went 3-1 against some of the top teams in the ITA's Atlantic South Region in addition to a win in the ODAC quarterfinals.  W&L went up against regionally top-rated Emory University, #10 Sewanee and #11 Oglethorpe, going 2-1 with the lone loss coming against Emory.  Holt competed at #2 singles and #1 doubles all week, posting a 3-1 record in singles action with his lone loss to region's fourth-ranked player from Emory (6-4, 6-7, 10-8).  Holt won 6-1, 6-4 against OU and followed that with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Sewanee.  In the ODAC Tournament against Randolph, he won 6-1, 6-0.  In doubles play, Holt and teammate Taylor Shamshiri went 4-0.  Rated #5 in the region, the Generals duo defeated the 15th-rated pair from OU, 8-6, and then trounced the #2 team from Emory, 8-3.  Holt and Shamshiri added 9-7 and 8-1 wins over Sewanee and Randolph.  Holt is now 17-6 overall in singles play and 21-4 in doubles action.

Men's Tennis Honor Roll

Kyle Hartfield, Bridgewater (Fr. - Marietta, Ga.)
Hartfield went 3-0 between #2 and #1 singles and 0-2 and #3 doubles last week as the Eagles moved on the ODAC Tournament with a 5-4 win over Hampden-Sydney.  He posted singles wins at #2 over Roanke (2-6, 6-4, 6-4) and Randolph-Macon (6-2, 6-3), and then went to #1 singles against H-SC and posted a 0-6, 7-6, 6-3 win.

Turner Votipka, Guilford (Jr. - Nashville, N.C.)
Votipka went 4-0 for the Quakers last week as they faced Randolph-Macon twice --- losing, 5-4, in the regular season finale and then winning, 5-4, in the ODAC quarterfinals.  Votipka won twice at #1 singles in 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 and 6-0, 6-4.  He and teammate Eric Meiler won 8-6 and 8-4 at #1 doubles.

John Adam, Randolph-Macon (So. - Vienna, Va.)
Adam went 5-1 last week, including 3-0 at #4 singles.  He posted singles wins over Guilford (7-6, 4-6, 7-5) and Bridgewater (4-6, 6-0, 7-5) in the regular season, and then again over GC (3-6, 6-0, 6-1) in the ODAC quarterfinals.  He and teammate Brantley Stein went 2-1 at #2 doubles with scores of 8-6, 5-8 and 8-4, respectively.

Graham Wilson, Virginia Wesleyan (So. - Newport News, Va.)
Wilson improved to 14-4 in singles action with a 6-0, 6-4 at #1 singles in VWC's 5-1 against Roanoke in the ODAC quarterfinals.  He and teammate Kenneth Downing won 8-2 at #1 doubles.
