Maroons to Play CNU Early on Sunday
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --- The game schedule at
the Newport News Regional of the 2012 NCAA Division III Softball
Tournament has changed following partial play on Saturday at
Christopher Newport University.
In one of Saturday's early games, McDaniel College and Ferrum
College needed 14 innings to determine a victor. The length
of that game forced several changes to the bracket's game schedule
with Sunday and Monday both needed to complete regional play.
Roanoke College, originally scheduled to play in the winner's
bracket semifinal against Christopher Newport on Saturday at 5:00
p.m., will now face the Captains at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. The
winner of that game advances to the regional final, which will be
played on Monday at 10:00 a.m. The "if necessary" game is now
scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Monday.
The loser of Sunday's 10:00 a.m. tilt between RC and CNU will have
to play again at 2:00 p.m. in the loser's bracket final. Its
opponent will either be Salisbury University or McDaniel.
Those squads play at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. The winner
of the loser's bracket final advances to Monday's championship and
possibly the "if necessary" game as that team will need to win
twice to claim a spot in Salem for the national championship
series.
