Randolph Names Fleming New Softball Head Coach

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Randolph College is pleased to announce Sara Fleming as the new head coach of the WildCat softball program.  Director of Athletics Tina Hill made the announcement on behalf of the College on Thursday.

"We're excited to have Coach Fleming join the WildCat family," said Hill.  "She brings a wide range of experience to our program with a passion not only for the sport, but for the development and success of our students on the field, in the classroom and most importantly, in life."

Fleming comes to Randolph with great experience as a player and as a coach.  For the past two years, Fleming has worked as an assistant with Division II University of West Alabama.  She helped with all aspects of the team, including recruiting, maintaining in-game statistics, keeping track of individuals' academics, and team culture building to name a few.  Fleming's work with the academics helped the Tigers achieve a team GPA of 3.23.

Prior to working with the DII school, Fleming spent the previous two seasons assisting Owens Community College in Ohio.  While she provided similar help with the Express, Fleming also helped hone the skills of the pitchers.  With her help, OCC won the 2012 Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Championship.

Before Owens, Fleming worked as an assistant coach at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for three seasons.  Once again she worked with the pitchers, but also provided fundamental skill development for the hitters and outfielders.  During those three years, the Bulldogs saw great success.  MGCCC made the NJCAA Division II National Tournament during 2009 and 2010, while winning the Region 23 Championship in 2009.  In 2011, the Bulldogs won the MACJC South State Championship and finished as the runner-ups for the MACJC State Championship.

Along with the experience coaching at the collegiate level, Fleming has also worked with players of younger ages.  She assisted Springfield High School and was a coach with the Fast Wizards club program in Ohio.

Prior to her time in coaching, Fleming had a distinguished playing career inside the circle.  She spent her first two seasons in college at East Mississippi Community College.  During that time, she won All-State honors.  After finishing at EMCC, Fleming attended Division III institution Millsaps College.  Fleming earned All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) honors and was twice named SCAC Pitcher of the Week.  Fleming capped off her accomplishments by being named an Academic All-American.

"I am very excited to start my head coaching journey at Randolph College," stated Fleming.  "I love that Randolph upholds the same values I do, and I feel that the family environment around campus makes success possible for everyone."

"I am thrilled to get started as a WildCat, and I am excited to have the opportunity to work with Tina. I look forward to meeting the entire team, and I am ready to hit the ground running!"

Fleming holds an Associate of Arts degree in Psychology from EMCC, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Millsaps, and a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from William Carey University.  She is currently working towards her Doctorate in Psychology from the University of the Rockies.

Fleming replaces Caroline Cubbage.  Cubbage coached the WildCats for six years and won over 120 games.  She took a job in the private sector.
