R-MC Held to One Hit in Softball Regional Loss to Averett

ASHLAND, Va. --- The second-seeded Randolph-Macon softball team was held to one hit in an 8-0 six-inning loss to third-seeded Averett in the first round of the NCAA Division III Ashland Regional Softball Tournament.

The Yellow Jackets (33-10) face fourth-seeded Franklin & Marshall in an elimination game on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. The Diplomats dropped a 5-0 decision to top-seeded and top-ranked Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. The Cougars (29-18) will face the Marlins on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Sophomore Savannah Wood (Tappahannock, Va./Essex) had the lone hit for R-MC, a single in the first inning. Junior Harley Jones (Brodnax, Va./Brunswick), sophomore Kerstin Roth (Yorktown, Va./Grafton and freshman Shelby Hill (Mechanicsville, Va./St. Margaret's) each drew walks for the Yellow Jackets.

Wood and Hill both had stolen bases for R-MC.

AU scored twice in the first, second and third innings, while adding single runs in the fifth and sixth.
