Rowan was close to scoring a run in the third inning, but the runner -- Kristina Mueller, who had singled earlier in the inning -- rounded third and was called out at home as Jones caught a foul out, threw to sophomore Taylor Sanderford (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) at third and caught Mueller in a rundown where she was eventually at home after the tag by sophomore Sami Davidson (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) at the plate after the throw from junior Savannah Wood (Tappahannock, Va./Essex) at shortstop.

In the third, junior Kerstin Roth (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) doubled to right center with two outs, but wasn't able to round the bases.

Play was suspended midway through the fourth inning and picked back up Monday afternoon.

Wood, the first R-MC batter, was hit by a pitch to mark R-MC's first baserunner of the second day of play. But she was eventually retired on a fielder's choice and R-MC bowed out of the inning.

Rowan scored four times in the top of the fourth after stringing together a two singles, a double and a home run.

Randolph-Macon got one run back in the bottom of the sixth. Roth walked to lead off the inning. Junior Candace Whittemore (Montpelier, Va./Patrick Henry) doubled, moving Roth to third. After a groundout by Wood, Jones grounded out as well, but sent Roth home to record R-MC's first score of the game.

Whittemore went 6.1 innings, allowing 11 hits, seven runs and fanning six. Freshman Kayley Scott (Henrico, Va./Lee-Davis) earned the final two outs while allowing two hits.
