Record Four ODAC Schools Earn Berths to the NCAA Softball Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- There will be a mob of ODAC teams in the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament as four ODAC schools dot the field of 62 as announced by the NCAA on Monday afternoon. Virginia Wesleyan University, winners of its fourth straight ODAC title and the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, are joined by a trio of at-large selections in Emory & Henry College, University of Lynchburg, and Randolph-Macon College.

Like the Marlins, 42 schools won their conference tournaments, awarding them automatic qualification into the field. Two were allotted to true independent teams (or those playing in conference's without an AQ) in "Pool B," while the remaining 18 spots went to at-large selections in "Pool C."

Virginia Wesleyan (40-4) is one of 16 hosts of regional pods across the country. Two consist of three teams, while the remaining 14 locations feature four squads each. The Marlins regional falls into the latter category with three programs head to Virginia Beach and VWU's new venue, TowneBank Park. Lynchburg (32-12) will be one of those teams traveling to VWU. The Hornets will meet Manhattanville College (40-2) in its opener, while the Marlins square off with the University of Scranton (32-13). Manhattanville won the MAC Freedom title, while Scranton earned the Landmark Conference crown.

Emory & Henry (25-16) is in the same quadrant as VWU and Lynchburg with the Wasps heading south to Emory University (30-10) for regional play. E&H opens with the host Eagles, while Transylvania University (28-11) and Piedmont College (29-10) meet in the other opening contest. Emory was a Pool "B" selection out of the University Athletic Association (UAA). Transylvania won the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) title, while Piedmont earned an at-large bid from the USA South.

Randolph-Macon (26-14) is on the opposite side of the bracket from the other three ODAC teams. The Yellow Jackets head to The College of New Jersey (33-6) for regional action. Hosted TCNJ meets Mount Aloysius College (32-8), while R-MC takes on Arcadia University (31-12). TCNJ won the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) championship, while MTA picked up the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) trophy and Arcadia secured the MAC Commonwealth hardware.

Regional play is slated for this upcoming weekend, May 10-12. Super regional action follows with eight two-team matchups on May 17-18. Those squads will play in a best 2-of-3 series format to determine the eight teams that head to Tyler, Texas, for the national championship series May 23-28.
