Cameron, a junior from Ocala, Fla., made six appearances for Shenandoah last week, all starts covering 32.0 innings of work. She allowed only 13 hits with six walks, while fanning 42 batters. She posted an earned run average of 0.66. Of the 13 runs she gave up, only three were earned. Cameron went 4-1 with a save, posting a pair of complete games. She struck out nine in a 6-3 win over York (Pa.), and followed with eight strike outs apiece in her next three starts in victories over Sweet Briar (14-0), Castleton (13-2) and Randolph (4-3). In her remaining start, Cameron threw 10 innings and surrendered six runs (two earned) on four hits with three walks and six strike outs in a 6-5 loss to Lynchburg. Earlier in the week, she picked up her first save of the season with three innings of relief in a 5-3 win in game two over York. For the season, Cameron owns a 9-2 record. She leads the ODAC in innings pitched (74.0), ERA (0.85) and strike outs (83).
Softball Pitching Honor Roll
Heather Jenkins, Bridgewater (Va.)
- (Sr, P/OF - Locust Grove, Va., 6)
Jenkins led Bridgewater to a 4-4 week at the Rebel Spring Games in
Florida after rolling up a 3-1 overall record in four appearances.
On Monday, Jenkins pitched the first five innings to earn the win
in a 4-0 victory over Defiance. She allowed just two hits in the
win. On Wednesday, Jenkins took down Coast Guard as she gave up
three earned runs on nine hits and fanned two batters in the 6-4
win. Her lone loss of the week came in a 2-0 loss to fourth-ranked
Illinois Wesleyan. Jenkins allowed just one earned run on six hits
in a complete game effort. She struck out five batters along the
way. In the final game of the week, Jenkins topped Millikin in a
6-2 victory. She allowed just one earned run on five hits in the
win. On the week, Jenkins gave up five earned runs across 26
innings of work and fanned 14 batters for a 1.35 ERA.
Jordan Aylor, East. Mennonite - (So, P -
Madison, VA, 15)
In her one start of the week, Aylor struck out six in a
five-inning win over Mary Baldwin. The sophomore allowed five hits
and only one run to earn the complete game win. For the season,
Aylor is 5-1 with a 1.75 ERA, and is seventh in the ODAC with her
five wins.
Ashley Boteler, Guilford - (Jr, P -
Manassas, Va., 88)
In her lone appearance of the week, Boteler slowed down a Virginia
Wesleyan rally in game two allowing just four base runners in five
innings. She gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits and
a walk while fanning a pair.
Hope Johnson, Lynchburg - (So, P -
Evington, VA, 8)
Johnson led LC to an undefeated week, starting twice in the
Hornets' 4-0 stretch. She earned a win Sunday at ODAC foe
Shenandoah, throwing nine innings in a 6-5 come-from-behind
victory. She gave up five runs (one earned) on 10 hits while
striking out seven. Earlier in the week, Johnson contributed
to a sweep of CNU with 3.2 innings of work. She allowed three
runs on five hits during her time in the circle.
Heather Lewis, Randolph-Macon - (Sr,
P/DP - Glen Allen, VA / Deep Run, 12)
Lewis allowed just one earned run over 22.2 innings last week on
the way to a four wins. The senior lefty tallied five strikeouts
while walking just one batter. For the season, Lewis leads the ODAC
with a 10-1 record and ranks fourth with a 1.33 ERA. She opened the
week with a five-inning shutout of Averett (8-0). She
followed with seven solid innings in a 6-5 win over Catholic,
giving up five runs (one earned) on nine hits. She helped
blank Guilford 6-0 in game one with seven scoreless frames, and
then picked up the win with 2.1 innings of relief in which she got
out of a bases loaded, one out jam in the bottom of the seventh for
a 4-3 win over the Quakers in game two.
Kelly Higbie, Roanoke - (So, P -
Midlothian, VA, 23)
Higbie went 2-1 in three games of pitching over the last week. She
pitched two complete games at the start of the week, tallying 13 of
her 17 innings. She gave up four runs on eight hits in a 9-4 win
over Guilford. In a 4-2 loss to Mt. Aloysius, Higbie gave up
just three hits and one earned run, but walks (5) and three
unearned runs led to RC's only loss of the week. She
rebounded with four scoreless innings in a 9-0 win over
Castleton. She struck out seven batters.
Mackenzie Creech, Va. Wesleyan - (Jr,
Pitcher - Hillsborough, N.C., 4)
Creech improved her season record to 6-2 by leading the Marlins to
a 6-1 victory at Guilford College. It was her third straight
victory and lowered her ERA to 1.37. She struck out six batters at
Guilford and has fanned 34 so far this season, averaging 5.17
strikeouts per game. It was her fourth complete game of the
season.
