Johnson, a sophomore from Evington, Va., made five appearances for Lynchburg last week, winning three starts and picking up a pair of saves. She surrendered just three total runs and 17 hits in 20.1 innings of work. She opened the week by working five innings in a 6-1 win over Averett. She gave up one run on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts. She came back in game two to fan the final batter of the game and pick up her first save of the season. She went the distance in game one against Randolph-Macon, scattering eight hits and a walk while giving up a run and striking out seven in a full seven innings. Johnson gave up just five hits in seven innings in game one against Virginia Wesleyan, giving up one run and whiffing three in a 6-1 LC win. She pitched a perfect final inning of game two for her second save of the week and season, which leads the ODAC. For the year, Johnson is 10-1 with a 1.63 EAR, fifth-best in the conference.
Softball Pitching Honor Roll
Heather Jenkins, Bridgewater (Va.) -
(Sr, P/OF - Locust Grove, Va, 6)
Jenkins rolled up a perfect 4-0 record in the circle as the Eagles
softball team cruised to an 8-0 week on the diamond. Jenkins set
the Bridgewater career shutouts record during the week and tossed
22 innings of action, allowing just two earned runs on 13 hits to
run her ERA to 1.10, which ranks the senior second in the league.
In four starts on the week, Jenkins allowed no earned runs and just
eight hits and struck out 19 batters. In Wednesday's sweep of
Eastern Mennonite, Jenkins tossed her 19th career shutout to set a
new school record in the process.
Casey Snead, Guilford - (Fr, OF -
Ellerbe, N.C., 8)
Snead threw a five-inning complete game in the Quakers' 9-1 win
over Salem, where surrendered one uneared run on three hits with
one walk and five strikeouts. She also tossed one scoreless
inning in which she struck out three batters in a 9-1 win over
Sweet Briar.
Heather Lewis, Randolph-Macon - (Sr, LHP/ DP - Glen
Allen, VA / Deep Run, 12)
Lewis finished the week with a 2-1 record and a 1.31 ERA over three
appearances. The senior lefty tossed seven innings without allowing
an earned run in a 5-1 win against Randolph on Sunday. Lewis' lone
loss came at Lynchburg on Saturday where she allowed just two
earned runs (seven overall) in six innings. She also went
three innings of a five-inning contest to pick up the win in a 17-1
decision against Sweet Briar.
Kelly Higbie, Roanoke - (So, P - Midlothian, VA,
23)
Higbie went 3-1 on the week, where she pitched a total of 19.2
innings that included three complete games. She no-hit Sweet
Briar over five innings for a 10-0 win. She went seven full
in beating Emory & Henry (8-1) and Shenandoah (3-2), allowing
10 hits and three runs (one earned) in those two contests
combined. Her loss came against Virginia Intermont.
