Several Others Tabbed for Postseason Honors
SALEM, Va. --- Three-time ODAC Player of the
Year and former conference top rookie, Molly Ariail, continues to
add to her awards collection following four standout seasons at
Randolph-Macon College. The Yellow Jackets’ post heads
a list of ODAC athletes that have earned recognition from several
outlets including the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association
(WBCA), D3hoops.com and Women’s DIII News.
Ariail earned First Team All-America honors both the WBCA and DIII
News while also receiving the Women’s DIII News Player of the
Year award. She was also named to the D3hoops.com First Team
All-South Region. Ariail, who joined fellow Jacket Megan
Silva ’06 as the only three-time winners of the ODAC’s
top player accolade, was selected to the All-ODAC First Team each
of the past three seasons following a second team honor in her
freshman campaign. She finished the 2010 season leading the
league in scoring and rebounding, dropping in 19.4 points per game
and grabbing 11.5 boards per contest. She was a winner
of three ODAC Player of the Week awards this season, and posted 15
double-doubles, tied for tops in the ODAC. For her career,
the York, Pa., native registered 1,845 points, good enough for a
16.9 points per game average. She also became the first
Yellow Jacket for cross the 1,000-rebound mark in the final weekend
of the regular season. She ended her career with 1,016
boards, ranking fifth in ODAC history.
Washington and Lee University forward Becca Bolton and Virginia
Wesleyan College guard Tonia Jones received All-America Honorable
Mention recognition from both the WBCA and DIII News. Bolton,
who was also named to the Third Team All-South Region by
D3hoops.com, tied atop the ODAC with 15 double-doubles after
helping the Generals win their first ODAC women’s basketball
championship in program history. Bolton finished the season
second in the ODAC at 11.1 rebounds per game, and was fifth in
scoring at 15.4 points per outing. She was named to the
All-ODAC First Team for her efforts.
Jones, named to the All-ODAC Second Team in 2008 and 2010
surrounding a 2009 bid on the All-ODAC First Team, was ninth in the
league in scoring at 12.8 points per game. She also shot at a
.421 clip (40-of-95) from beyond the arc, good enough for second in
the ODAC. She scored 34 against Meredith College in November,
tying for the highest single-game output in the conference this
season.
Hollins University guard, Jasmine Greene, and Roanoke College
guard, Caitlyn Long, earned spots on the D3hoops.com Second and
Third All-South Region teams, respectively. Greene, the 2010
ODAC Rookie of the Year, ranked second in the ODAC in scoring at
19.2 points per game while leading the league in steals at 3.2 per
contest. She tied VWC’s Jones for the most points in
one game in 2010, scoring 34 in a February clash with Guilford
College.
Long is a two-time honoree on the All-ODAC First Team, receiving
her recognition each of the past two seasons. The senior
Roanoke-native averaged 11.7 points per game while finishing second
in three-pointers made (55 and 2.04) and third in free throw
shooting (.829; 58-70) in the ODAC. She capped her career
with a career-high 28 points in a NCAA Division III Tournament
second round loss to Christopher Newport University.
