Several Others Tabbed for Postseason Honors

SALEM, Va. --- Three-time ODAC Player of the Year and former conference top rookie, Molly Ariail, continues to add to her awards collection following four standout seasons at Randolph-Macon College.  The Yellow Jackets’ post heads a list of ODAC athletes that have earned recognition from several outlets including the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), D3hoops.com and Women’s DIII News.

Ariail earned First Team All-America honors both the WBCA and DIII News while also receiving the Women’s DIII News Player of the Year award.  She was also named to the D3hoops.com First Team All-South Region.  Ariail, who joined fellow Jacket Megan Silva ’06 as the only three-time winners of the ODAC’s top player accolade, was selected to the All-ODAC First Team each of the past three seasons following a second team honor in her freshman campaign.  She finished the 2010 season leading the league in scoring and rebounding, dropping in 19.4 points per game and grabbing 11.5 boards per contest.   She was a winner of three ODAC Player of the Week awards this season, and posted 15 double-doubles, tied for tops in the ODAC.  For her career, the York, Pa., native registered 1,845 points, good enough for a 16.9 points per game average.  She also became the first Yellow Jacket for cross the 1,000-rebound mark in the final weekend of the regular season.  She ended her career with 1,016 boards, ranking fifth in ODAC history.

Washington and Lee University forward Becca Bolton and Virginia Wesleyan College guard Tonia Jones received All-America Honorable Mention recognition from both the WBCA and DIII News.  Bolton, who was also named to the Third Team All-South Region by D3hoops.com, tied atop the ODAC with 15 double-doubles after helping the Generals win their first ODAC women’s basketball championship in program history.  Bolton finished the season second in the ODAC at 11.1 rebounds per game, and was fifth in scoring at 15.4 points per outing.  She was named to the All-ODAC First Team for her efforts.

Jones, named to the All-ODAC Second Team in 2008 and 2010 surrounding a 2009 bid on the All-ODAC First Team, was ninth in the league in scoring at 12.8 points per game.  She also shot at a .421 clip (40-of-95) from beyond the arc, good enough for second in the ODAC.  She scored 34 against Meredith College in November, tying for the highest single-game output in the conference this season.

Hollins University guard, Jasmine Greene, and Roanoke College guard, Caitlyn Long, earned spots on the D3hoops.com Second and Third All-South Region teams, respectively.  Greene, the 2010 ODAC Rookie of the Year, ranked second in the ODAC in scoring at 19.2 points per game while leading the league in steals at 3.2 per contest.  She tied VWC’s Jones for the most points in one game in 2010, scoring 34 in a February clash with Guilford College.

Long is a two-time honoree on the All-ODAC First Team, receiving her recognition each of the past two seasons.  The senior Roanoke-native averaged 11.7 points per game while finishing second in three-pointers made (55 and 2.04) and third in free throw shooting (.829; 58-70) in the ODAC.  She capped her career with a career-high 28 points in a NCAA Division III Tournament second round loss to Christopher Newport University.
