Joins BC from National Power Hamilton

BRIDGEWATER, Va. --- Bridgewater College’s Director of Athletics, Curt Kendall, announced Thursday that Kim Lowry has been hired as head coach for the Eagles’ women’s lacrosse team.

Lowry was an assistant coach the past two seasons for national power Hamilton College. Hamilton reached the national semifinals in 2009 and played in the Division III national championship game in 2010. Hamilton lost in the title game to Salisbury, 7-6. Lowry coached three Division III All-Americans during the 2010 season.

Prior to her stint at Hamilton, Lowry was an assistant coach at Endicott College in Beverly, Mass., during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. She helped guide Endicott to a 15-6 record, Commonwealth Coast Conference regular season and tournament titles, and an NCAA tournament appearance in 2008.

“I’ve always been attracted to the small, liberal arts colleges,” Lowry said of her decision to pursue the Bridgewater position. “That’s the type education I received and it’s an environment I am comfortable with. The Bridgewater campus is beautiful and the staff was very welcoming. It just felt like a very good fit.”

Taking over the Eagles’ program will be the first head coaching position for Lowry.

“I have been very fortunate to be surrounded by some very strong mentors both as a player and as an assistant coach,” added Lowry. “They have all helped prepare me to become a head coach.”

Lowry played lacrosse at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland. The three-time team captain was selected to the all-region second team by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association and the Centennial Conference second team in 2006. She led McDaniel in points and assists in a season three times. Lowry is ranked ninth in career points and fourth in career assists at McDaniel. She was also the soccer team's captain in 2004 and 2005.

Lowry made the Dean's List multiple times at McDaniel, where she graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in sports and entertainment marketing and management in 2005. Lowry minored in sports coaching and sports journalism. She earned her master's in exercise science and physical education in 2008.

The Eagles’ new coach is anxious to get started.

“The ODAC is an up-and-coming conference in lacrosse with some very good teams in W&L, Roanoke and Lynchburg. I’m confident Bridgewater has the potential to improve in the conference,” Lowry said. “I’m excited to start working with the girls already in the program and I’m excited about recruiting student-athletes who can help us be successful. I’ve established some great contacts that should help me recruit. I think once I get them to campus it will be an easy sell.”

Lowry takes over a Bridgewater program that finished with a 10-7 overall mark and a 1-6 ODAC record in 2010.
