R-MC's Geratowski, VWC's Schallock, SU's Bereit also Garner Special Honors
FOREST, Va. --- Washington and Lee University goalkeeper Cara Mulligan was named the ODAC Player of the Year by the league's head coaches, highlighting the 2015 All-ODAC Women's Lacrosse awards. Randolph-Macon College mentor MK Geratowski was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year, while Virginia Wesleyan College midfielder Megan Schallock took home ODAC Rookie of the Year accolades. Shenandoah University midfielder Liz Bereit earned the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete award.
Mulligan, a senior from Glen Ridge, N.J., helped lead the nationally 10th-ranked Generals to their 16th ODAC title this past weekend, the most in league history. Mulligan leads the ODAC with a 7.56 goals-against-average, which ranks 19th in NCAA Division III. Seven times she has allowed six goals or fewer in a game, all resulting in Washington and Lee victories. She made 11 saves in a contest twice, marking her season-high, with both coming in one-goal wins. On six occasions she helped the Generals preserve one-goal triumphs.
Geratowski, in her second season guiding the Yellow Jackets, has helped her program shoot up the conference ranks. The previous two seasons, R-MC posted six conference wins. This year, the Yellow Jackets improved to 9-1 in league play and the second seed in the ODAC Tournament. R-MC made its first appearance in the ODAC title game since 2005, falling to Washington and Lee, 8-7, following a bid for the program's first conference crown since 2002. Randolph-Macon finished the season with a 14-4 overall record.
Schallock, a freshman from Waukesha, Wis., put together a banner rookie season. She led the ODAC with 72 goals scored, which is ranked ninth in the country. She is second in the ODAC in points (77) and third in both draw controls (104) and ground balls (65). She took advantage of her free position opportunities, scoring a league-high 19 times in those situations. Schallock registered five or more points in a game nine times, including a season-high nine in the regular season finale against Shenandoah. Twice she registered 12 draw controls in a game, her best marks of the season.
Bereit, a senior from Latrobe, Pa., stars on and off the field for Shenandoah. In the classroom, Bereit owns a 3.90 grade point average as a Sport Management major. The perennial Dean's List honoree is a two-time academic all-state recipient from VaSID and a two-time member of the All-ODAC Academic Team. She is SU's SAAC president and was selected as the SU female athlete, student-athlete and AD Award winner for the class of 2015. On the field, Bereit combines this honor with an All-ODAC First Team selection. She's third in the ODAC in both points (70) and goals scored (51) and fifth with 19 assists. She caused 44 turnovers, the third-best mark in the league, and is fourth with 44 ground balls. She registered five or more points in a game six times, including eight on two separate occasions.
