SBC Tabs Behrle Interim Lacrosse Head Coach

SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- Sweet Briar College Director of Athletics Teresa Boylan has announced the hiring of Megan Behrle, '09, as the interim head lacrosse coach.

Behrle comes to Sweet Briar from Washington D.C., where she has been coaching the WINNERS Lacrosse club team since 2013. She served as the director for spring youth programs and emphasized fundamentals, safety, and fun for participants. Behrle has also been working as an accounting assistant for the International Monetary Fund since 2014.

"We are so fortunate to have alumna Megan Behrle joining us as our interim head coach for the spring 2016 season," Boylan said. "Megan brings with her so many positives for this team, including her experience as a student-athlete here at Sweet Briar. Megan has also been diligently working behind the scenes as an assistant lacrosse recruiter for us since October. We are anxious to get started with all the spring sports and are pleased to have Megan joining our department."

A 2009 graduate of Sweet Briar, Behrle served as a captain for both the lacrosse and field hockey teams. Over her final three seasons as a Vixen, Behrle didn't miss a start for the lacrosse team, scored 60 goals, and contributed 57 assists.

In addition to her athletic prowess, Behrle was also an excellent student and received The Presidential Medal in 2009. An article written about the award presentation can be read here.

During her time at Sweet Briar, Behrle was named to the Virginia Sports Informaiton Directors All-State Academic Team for field hockey and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Team. She also served as president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, among many other extra-curricular activities.

After graduation, Behrle went on to obtain her Master's Degree in International Development and Social Change from Clark University in Massachusetts. Her degree research was about the use of sports for positive youth development in conflict areas.

"I am overwhelmingly excited to come back to Sweet Briar and to get an opportunity to coach the team this season," said Behrle. "I am really looking forward to working with the girls and continuing the long-standing lacrosse tradition at Sweet Briar."

Behrle began her coaching career during her time in graduate school. Since then, she has coached a number of club teams in both Massachusetts and the D.C. area.

"I'm really excited about moving up to the next level of coaching and to start working with athletes who are already at the peak of their athletic potential," Behrle added. "Our team is going to represent Sweet Briar both on the field and in the classroom to the best of our abilities. Really, this year is going to be about having fun, being excited about the game, and competing every chance we get."

Behrle will officially begin her coaching duties with Sweet Briar on January 18.
