Washington and Lee Set to Host NCAA Women's Lax Opening Rounds

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Washington and Lee University is set to enter the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament for the 10th straight season and 19th time overall following its record 20th ODAC title over the weekend. The 2019 national field consists of 42 teams.

Like the Generals, 31 schools won their conference tournaments, awarding them automatic qualification into the field. One was allotted to true independent teams (or those playing in conference's without an AQ) in "Pool B," while the remaining 10 spots went to at-large selections in "Pool C."

Washington and Lee (17-2), currently the top-ranked team in the country according the IWLCA Coaches Poll, is in a highly competitive portion of bracket in the lower-left quadrant. That grouping also includes two-time defending champion Gettysburg College (16-1), currently second in the IWLCA poll. Seventh-ranked Wesleyan University (Conn.) makes it three top-10 teams in the country in that quadrant.

The Generals host first and second round contests on Saturday-Sunday, May 11-12. Ithaca College (13-6) and Meredith University (17-4) will meet in the first round contest. Ithaca is an at-large selection out of the Liberty League, while Meredith claimed the USA South championship and automatic bid.

Following the opening two rounds, tournament play continues with regional action on Saturday-Sunday, May 18-19. The two winners then head to Virginia for the second straight season as Randolph-Macon College will serve as the semifinal and championship host on Saturday-Sunday, May 25-26.
