Hollins Names Carrie Moore O’Keeffe New Soccer Coach

Former William and Mary Standout Brings Professional Experience

ROANOKE, Va. --- Hollins University and Athletic Director Lynda Calkins are pleased to announce the hiring of Carrie O'Keeffe as head soccer coach.  O'Keeffe will begin immediately, taking over the program after the departure of head coach Kim Jones.

O'Keeffe comes to Hollins after spending six years playing and coaching in the Washington Freedom Soccer Club.  During the team's three seasons in the WUSA, O'Keefe was recognized as on of the leagues best defenders.  From 2001 - 2003 the Freedom reached the finals twice, winning the championship in 2003.  O'Keeffe was named as a WUSA All-Star in 2002 and named to the 2003 Soccer America First-Team All WUSA.  After the WUSA suspended operations, O'Keeffe served on the staff of the U19 Women's National Team in 2004.  She also, continued to play and coach in the Washington DC area, captaining the Freedom exhibition team to a victory over the Spanish National Team in Madrid in 2005.

O'Keeffe graduated from the College of William and Mary with a B.A. in Kinesiology in 2000.  As a four year starter for the CAA powerhouse, O'Keeffe helped to lead the soccer team to four straight conference championships and NCAA tournament appearances.  She was first or second team all-conference each year as well as being named team captain and MVP in 1999.
