Hampden-Sydney (17-3), which snapped the a 13-year ODAC championship winning streak by W&L to earn its place in the national field, takes to the court against Transylvania University (17-3).  Should the Tigers win, they would take on hosts Emory (16-3) in the second round.  Also competing in Atlanta are N.C. Wesleyan (14-0) and the University of Mary Washington (18-10).

The Tigers' only opponent of the four teams was Mary Washington, which defeated H-SC, 8-1, on April 18.  Phillip Parrish claimed the only point for Hampden-Sydney with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles.
